DaveRindner Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 One question what is the fidelity of Viggen flight model? Is it 'realistic'? Does it feel 'realistic'? OK this is subjective. Are start up, operation, and weapons employment procedures detailed and accurate? Do they feel 'real'. Specifically: Systems, avionics, and engine management. Weapons employment , effectiveness, and envelopes. Realistic stress limits on landing and TO. Flight departure proneness, and departure/spin recovery. Communication systems. AM/FM VHF/UHF, ILS, TACAN/GPS tactical navigation. Do you consider it money well spend.? I am more of procedures and tactics, and skills kind of guy, vs. action and victory. Though those are nice.
QuiGon Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I'd say that the Viggen is one of the most detailed and accurate modules available in DCS. The aircraft and its systems are very detailed and there is a lot of functions to interact with. For example, The heart of the aircraft, which is the CK37 computer (the first digital computer in a jet fighter as far as I know) is simulated with all it's functions. The flight model is, as far as I can tell, very realistic (at least it feels like it). There are still some minor bugs, which is to be expected as this module has just been released in early access, but it is already great fun! I'd say money is very well spend if you like strikers and 3rd gen aircraft with lots of system interaction. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

In the Viggen FB group, there was a guy having one of the most experienced Viggen pilots try the DCS Viggen. He gave it thumbs up. That is enough for me. ;) Secondly, I know the DCS Viggen is developed directly from the real aircraft and weapons systems manuals, and Heatblur has worked to incorporate everything as described there. As the module is still early access, the team is working on making everything work as intended, but much is working well already. And it feels good and very "alive". About procedures and tactics, this aircraft is built upon this concept: You basically need to pre-plan every attack run in this aircraft, including waypoints, alignment of nav system, QFE on target and all. GPS is not existing. You have a basic inertial navigation system, that needs to be aligned on the runway before take off, and also along the way since it drifts. To me it has been an interesting aircraft to get into, because the cue systems etc. are built quite differently to what else we have seen in DCS. I really enjoy flying and using it. 1 System specs: Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440) Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use
Astronut Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 The Viggen is worth every penny IMHO. It brings a lot of neat stuff to the table... Ground Radar (a first in DCS). A basic Auto-Throttle. Thrust Reverse. A navigation system that is susceptible to drift, so you have to update your position based on landmarks along the route. Waypoint Programmable Weapons More that I have most certainly missed.. In other words, it is one of the best modules available at the moment. When flying it, you basically spend most of your time at low level and high speed. What's not to like?
David OC Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 The Viggen is a very good module, you can tell it's a labour of love. Wags Viggen - Interdiction mission is included with the module, good example what it was built to do. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.
