AI wingmen formation distance

Is there any way in the mission editor to keep close the distance between aircrafts in a formation with AIs? When I set a group of 4 aircrafts with me as a leader, the 3 AIs always stay quite far behind me and they don't seem to care about my orders to rejoin. As a result I meet the enemy alone and I am massacred :(

Hi Marcast: you can do this both from the mission editor, and in-game.

 

In the mission editor, select your flight and click the "ADVANCED WAYPOINT ACTIONS" button while WP0 is selected.

 

Click the ADD button

 

Select "set option" from the drop down menu

 

Select "formation" and choose which formation you'd like your wingmen to fly in by default. You can select whether you want a close or far variant after choosing the formation.

 

In-game, open the radio menu with \ and select Flight -> Go formation -> XXXXXX

 

Much like the mission editor, you can also order the flight to fly close formation or spread out once you've issued an order.

Plus now you have third option, called "group close" - the closest one available.

Except that this one for some reason is not implemented in all aircraft yet leaving the editor the only option. Hope that will be fixed soon.
