Currently ED's DCS World and DCS World 2 Open Alpha both are installed on my SSD drive and that disk is crammed full. ED eats up most of my SSD capacity with:

DCS World: 30 GB

DCS World 2 Open Alpha (only a subset of my modules installed): 60 GB

By the time DCS World 2 Open Alpha is released, with Normandy map and WWII asset pack, and all modules I've bought, it will probably require 80 GB or more.

I don't think that DCS World needs to run on a SSD, and I have a lot of spare capacity on a hard drive. I would like to "move" DCS World to the hard drive.

My network connection is not very fast (about 4 Mbit/s).

Is there an easy way to move DCS world program files to the hard drive without re-downloading everything?

Note: I have not bought through Steam so I cannot use their facility.

Edit: Just looked at the Steam Mover site (should have done that earlier) and it seems that I should be able to use it.

Hi

you can just cut and paste the whole folder to a new location. You will have to edit your shortcuts manually.

DCS does run better on SSD, but I understand if space is tight, I currently have 8 DCS installs on my machine :)

Thanks BIGNEWY! It seems that Steam Mover does just that, plus creating junction points so you don't need to update the shortcuts.

I will start by creating a system image.

As a first big change, I moved the DCS World 2 Open Alpha to a hard disk.

It was a bit of a job to re-create the related items in the Start Menu, but everything is working fine and my SSD disk has a lot of free space now. Feels better! If it turns out that the hard disk is not the best place for DCS World, I will buy a larger SSD to replace it; but DCS will not return to the system disk.

why didn't someone tell me that my SSD system disk still held 30 GB of old stuff under "Windows.old"?:D

I used to believe that Windows 10 would delete that automatically 1 month after the upgrade. So much about beliefs...

Well, not only that, each new Build of Win10 you install will keep your old build, about 28GB each time, until you delete it.

I would not delete it manually, it's a plain pain i.the.*. Use the tool given from MS to do so.

Right click your drive and clean it including System files. Naming differs from language to language, but it aint hard to do.

Usually its 30+GB each time I clean it out after a new build.

Cleaning ONLY works on your Sys drive, not on any other drive.
