Marcast Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Do SA-11 launchers have an own short range radar? I destroyed the SR vehicle, but when I got close to the battery they launched and shot me down :(
Esac_mirmidon Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Every Sa-11 launcher has his own radar so, yes, they can fire missiles individually. " You must think in russian.." Vampyre Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 Do SA-11 launchers have an own short range radar? I destroyed the SR vehicle, but when I got close to the battery they launched and shot me down :( Yes. The track radar is mounted on the individual launcher vehicles. It is inside the large green radome on the front of the turret. Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. Marcast Posted May 15, 2017 Author Posted May 15, 2017 And what is this radar's range? It acts quite strange, it seems to activate when you are very close (3-5 km) but then it can track you maybe up to 10 km
Esac_mirmidon Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 The real Sa11 has a range of 32 Km. " You must think in russian.." [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Windows 7 Home Premium-Intel 2500K OC 4.6-SSD Samsung EVO 860- MSI GTX 1080 - 16G RAM - 1920x1080 27´ Hotas Rhino X-55-MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals -Track IR 4

Emu Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 The real Sa11 has a range of 32 Km. Latest version of Buk (M3) has a range of 70km and service ceiling of 35km. Aslo believed to use ARH.
Esac_mirmidon Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 i´m talking about the real version modeled in DCS. " You must think in russian.." Eddie Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 What version is modelled in DCS? M2? The Buk M1/M2 has the NATO code name SA-17 Grizzly. SA-11 Gadfly is the original Buk prior to any major updates.
Emu Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Forgive me for using wikipedia but wasn't the M1 also SA-11, and the M1-2 and M2E SA-17? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buk_missile_system#9M317M_and_9M317A_missile_development_projects
p1t1o Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 IIRC in normal operation, the search radar "hands off" the contact to the track radar on individual TELARs. So the radar on the TELAR is responsible for guidance during the entire missile flight, ergo, its range is sufficient for max-range engagements. Destroying the search radar should suppress a complex's ability to detect targets, the tracking radars not being designed to search large volumes, but once spotted you are vulnerable out to max range.
