aehay Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Hey All, Just looking for some tips on how to stay undetected by enemy units in LockOn: For example, does not pushing (i) and keeping my radar off keep me undetected for longer? I could turn radar off and use awacs to guide me to bandits then quickly turn on radar and fire an aim 120 at the enemies, wait for the missiles guidance to kick in and then turn radar back off? Is that at all a reasonable tactic? Thanks any other tips would be appreciated!!! 1
Kula66 Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Indeed this is an option - someone once said using radar is like using a torch at night - everyone else out there knows you are there BEFORE you can see them! Try flying high - above peoples scan cones ... or low and hide in the weeds. James
504MrWolf Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I thought he F-15's scan cone goes from 0ft to 50,000ft :) www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk
Kuky Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Actually the way the radar scanns is in a shape of a pyramid. The aircraft itself would be the tip of the pyramid... and the vertical scan zone would be the "width" of the pyramid base. Viewed from the side... it looks like a long triangle. The furter your scan range... the wider the base... but the closer your range, the narrower the scan area. So basically if your target is at 80miles and flying at 30000ft and you are at groud level, you'd be able to detect it (if radar is strong enough). However, same target at 20miles and same altitude... it won't fit into your radar scan area.
