I just noticed this thread, so I'll quote what I wrote about this topic in the general F/A-18 thread:

AFAIK none of the Navy Hornets (not quiet sure about the G) have any kind of emitter locastion system (ELS), like the Air Force F-16s have in their HTS-pods or the old Wild Weasel F-4s had internally. So only the basic HARM modes, which use the HARM as Sensor (HAS), should be available.

I've heard the Navy tested a similar pod, the Targeting Avionic System (TAS) on the F/A-18C In the late 90s and early 00s, but I haven't heard anything about what happened to this project. I guess it got cancelled.

The Growlers purpose is to spy on enemy comms and jam their signals. I think I've read somewhere that they don't have an ELS, but if three or more Growlers work together they are able to triangulate signal sources, which is what a ELS-equipped aircraft could do on it's own (e.g. the F-4G, the Tornado ECR, and to a limited extend the F-16CJ + HTS) . But I'm not quiet sure here.

Re Growlers: "ALQ-218" :)

There's some stuff about the ALR-67v2/3 being able to target for ARMs as well. Not much in the way of specifics though, as I recall. Would be one hell of a capability considering that the ALR-67 is standard, AFAIK, for all Hornet operators.

but the difference is aim7M is still technically in service , even if they are almost never used for combat anymore( being steadily phased out since 90s for Aim120 series), they still see some use in Training Exercises.

Below an image of a USMC Hornet in 2009 ( departing Nellis AFB) with the AIm7M & Aim9X combo.

so no worries there. Aim7M is therefore likely to be included.

The Sparrow is useful because it allows the launching aircraft to disengage should the need arise..just break the radar lock, stop illuminating, etc..and the sparrow will go stupid and miss.

Immediately post 9/11 ANG F-15 units would usually carry a 2X2X2 loadout (2 Aim-9, 2 Aim-7, 2 Aim-120) since if the need arose to launch on a non-responsive aircraft, and suddenly they responded or the situation was resolved, they could abort and the missile wouldn't pitbull towards the target regardless.

It could be the Navy is still employing Sparrows over Syria for the same reason.

+11111 My absolute favorite aircraft, I'm hoping ED can (at least with ai) model some basic electronic warfare (even if a lot of it is guess work due to it's classified nature), it would add a more complete experience for mission creators in my opinion. Maybe some day get a module dedicated to it. lol sorry for going a bit off topic :pilotfly:

Try this... you migth like... lot of guesswork, but I tried to document myself. This is the most secret field of military hardware.

Just found a new script to use for my missions. Seriously though this is absolutely awesome, thanks for linking it to me, I guess I never stumbled across it while perusing the forums.
