Dougal Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Coming from other sims like X-Plane and P3D, I'm used to using a yoke, and don't currently own a flight stick. I'm finding the Spitfire REALLY hard to fly, never mind master. Would I find it any easier with a decent stick? I do have pedals, although even with sensitivity turned really low, I still find the rudder VERY quickly overpowers the Spit. Any and all suggestions most welcome:pilotfly: Asus Z170 Deluxe - i7 6700k@4600mhz - 16gb Corsair DDR4 RAM@3200mhz - Asus Strix GTX970
mkiii Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I use a Warthog for most things, but to be honest IMO, it is best suited for jets, which of course it is designed for. I also have an old X52 Pro, which has much lighter springs, and I find it to be fine for use on the props, and Helicopters. If you can possibly manage it, a desk clamp or floor stand of some sort that allows you to drop the stick between your legs, or at least below the desk will also make things feel more natural.
MonnieRock Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Dougal, Your yoke should be fine as well as your rudder pedals. I would suggest going into options-->controls--Axis commands for the module you wish to edit. Or while flying hit ESC--->Adjust controls--->Axis Commands for the module you are flying. In the axis commands, choose the axis, and click Axis Tune on the bottom, you might add a little curve and reduce the Saturation Y a bit until you find the sweet spot, then tune from there. While you are flying the module you wish to edit, RCTRL+ENTER should bring up the controls indicator overlay, so you can see the input(S) of your controls. If you need any more help, feel free to ask Remember, the P-38 Lightening had a yoke  Monnie Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb
Yaga Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 First off, make sure DCS isn't auto assigning incorrect axis. Go through the axis assignments for the Spit and double check that the yoke is only pitch/roll, throttle is only throttle, etc. With the P-51 at least, I always find it auto assigns bizarre things with a new install. Also, put a mean curve on rudder under 'axis tune'. Like 30. Or maybe more.
LeCuvier Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 The Spit is a very nervous thoroughbread and responds to the slightest control input. The TM WH stick requires far to much force for fine control. I doubt that a yoke is the right thing having used one on a real prop plane. I use a VKB Gladiator Pro with a soft spring, and that gives me the accuracy required for 1944 fighters.
