I'm having trouble using my stick extension because my pedals are to narrow and my seat is too high. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which seat/HOTAS+stick extension/rudder pedals combo that feels the most ergonomic?

Back in the day, I got my Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals for $100 and they have been worth every penny. Great ergonomics for my center stick setup and still working great after many, many years. There must be some sort of filtering in the driver software, because I haven't done any maintenance and still don't notice noise/spikes. I understand that many Saitek owners have had worse luck with longevity/reliability than me. Some mods are recommended to change the centering/feel, especially for helo sims, but I have used these for so long that I don't notice the spring tension/center detent that much.

Any of the newer high end pedals have a pretty wide spread and some can be adjusted to user preference. When my Saitek pedals finally fail, I am going to try one of them. Either the MFG Crosswind or the Slaw Device (

). The thing I dislike about both of these rudder pedal setups is that they rely on a horizontal lever action that causes their width to decrease as you deviate from the centered position. The Saitek pedals use a sliding action on straight tracks, so the motion is close to the experience with real pedals on combat aircraft and airliners. I may try to build my own when the time comes to replace the Saitek pedals.

Unfortunately, the ones I like the best that are professional grade and based on the mechanics of Boeing airliner pedals and very similar to what I want to replicate the F-4 Phantom pedal setup are insanely expensive ($3,500 CAD). These include the little handle you turn to adjust the pedals for your leg's reach. While I would set the distance once and be done with it, this is just a way too cool feature that was also onf F-4 Phantoms. http://www.flightdecksolutions.com/components/b737ng/b737ng-flight-controls/b737ng-rudder-pedals/

I have the extensions from MFG and have the MFG rudders. Works like a charm for me. I used some scrap wood to make a stand for the joystick. And I've since painted the extensions with matte black spray paint.

Here's a PIC of it

I (now) use the VKB Gunfighter Pro with extension for the stick (previously, TMWH with 20 cm extension), and MFG pedals.

I mount the stick using the excellent Monstertech solution, but with custom dimensions to allow for a much greater vertical and horizontal offset:

Works like a charm!

My chair is a plain old wooden dining chair, with some padding strapped on.

Originally I was using a real F-4 stick, but I got tired of cleaning pots and adapted the cover box to support the Warthog stick that had been collecting dust for a few years. I used an extension so that the Warthog stick would have the same range of movement in the pitch axis as the real F-4 stick it replaced, then mounted such that the height would be the same. The seat and throttle console mimic the size and heights of the real F-4 cockpit, but the real seat could be raised or lowered several inches. I tried to set up my seat to mimic the height adjustment I could see in photos, which may be the full down position or very close to it. This is my current setup with the Saitek pedals and Warthog HOTAS:
