I would like to see if anyone has managed to run DCS 2.1 with max setting at 1080p and maintain at least 60fps. If so, what is your hardware?

My pc specs are below and settings are maxed except civ traffic is low, shadows are low, and res of cockpit displays is 512. With this, my FPS varies wildly from low 70's on the runway at Nellis to over 100 in the open desert but drops to a minimum of 40 or so over Las Vegas.

What I would like to achieve is to be able to maintain 60 FPS to match my monitor refresh rate to get rid of stutters and increase smoothness and overall performance, especially with TrackIR. Obviously, an upgrade to my graphics card is something that I am considering. However, I purchased the 1060 just last year and it was great as my FPS in 2.0 was double what I get now. The recent update to 2.1 has really reduced performance for many so I don't know if a 1070 or 1080 will help achieve that 60 FPS target. Would it be best just to wait for further optimization, especially with MSAA or are the new graphics upgrades that much more demanding and the 1060 is just underperfoming?

Thanks for the advice and help everyone!

It's almost impossible to run any games with all max settings. About 2.1, wait for further optimization, The paint is still wet.

I normally use 3x 23" monitors running @ 6040x1080p res. Since I've been having major crash issues with 2.1.1, I decided to try 1 monitor @ 1920x1080p. With settings set to high, Deferred Shading On, AA-4x & AF-16x I surprisingly received no crashes. I flew 2 long missions with overall smooth flight with a few stutters. With 3 monitor setup, I could not fly more than 5 mins without the sim crashing. I was doing bombing runs in the A10C off the coast and my fps did not go below 70 around crowded scenes. At least I didn't notice since I have afterburner running with big fonts showing my fps, ect. As a user, it's hard to remember the sim is still in Alpha. There's tons of optimization that still needs to be done. I had a 970 FTW, but I knew I was going to upgrade so I went ahead and did it even though I didn't have to ATM.

Hi brianjmac - it does with my specs.

With 1080p60Hz screen fps in cockpit view are between 75 and 90 (55-60 fps in external view due to Bokeh field of view effect) flying A10a above Las Vegas (city center on the hud).

With a big amount of units moving on the city and above (198 ground units + 42 planes ... I made this for a Ram test) cockpit view fps are between 55 and 60.

Menu settings everything on and maxed out with 2.1 (I did this test in June)

... I made this for a Ram test...

Are objects loaded in RAM?

pimp probably at some point I don't know.... what I can say is that 0 units versus 240 units doesn't increase ram usage much but Vram usage and with 494 units ram usage is still about the same but Vram usage is bigger and CPU+GPU surrender you have 1 frame every 2-3 seconds ...

So as a Ram test this units amount test wasn't concluant at all ....

A short video of 2.1.1 running almost maxed out.... (no field of view effect nor civilian traffic) on 1080p screen, near and above Las Vegas.

Bye.

Thanks for the video, good stuff! You guys have reassured me that a GPU upgrade would be more than beneficial. I went all out and got the 1080 Ti!

Your PC specs show you running your CPU @4.6 with a 1080ti.

You can't do much better than that if at all.

Yep, I updated my specs in my sig after purchasing the 1080 Ti. I am now more than good at 1080p and will consider 1440p resolution in the future.
