Tech advice

Cheers lads....

A bit of a tech question here. I am interested in maybe getting a new graphics card and would very much like to hear/read some recommendations. First off, i am playing on small screens (19-21 inches), so my goal resolutions are in the 1280 range for the most part.

Second, how much does video RAM contribute to DCS performance and how much does the actual clocked speed?

Third, by playing with the settings in game, i noticed that visibility distance plays a big part only up high, when down in the weeds, especially in urban places, FPS drops regardless. What influences low alt, urban area FPS the most?

And finally, what would you recommend as a most efficient and/or effective graphics card for the above mentioned resolutions, if i'd like to get consistent and playable frame rate at high settings?

ADD: i currently run an i5 at 3.3GHz with 16GB ram and an GTX 950 with 2GB of RAM.

As always, looking forward to any advice and input!

Safe flying :D

VRAM is very important since the textures being used in DCS are getting larger.

If your budget can handle it, I would get a 1080ti or a 1080. Even a 1060 would be a significant improvement, especially in the area of VRAM.

The number of objects (i.e. Buildings, etc.) is probably the biggest effect on FPS. The lower your altitude the more impact since the sim will use a higher resolution LOD model for each object as you get closer.

IMHO, of course.

nVidia GTX 1080ti Strix OC

But seriously, just get the best card you can afford I guess - the GTX 980ti are pretty good bang for buck.

Thanks mates! I appreciate your input. I'm not in a great hurry, but still, depending on if i can sell my current graphics card i may go for anything 1060 upward, especially if video RAM is so important, i'll try to get on with at least 6GB. :)
