Not sure if this belongs here.

Okay this is something that has puzzled me since I started with DCS, when flying helicopters and when landing the near ground is out of focus which is unnatural and to me inconsistent as looking at my feet position on the toque pedals doesn't make the surrounding near ground look out of focus in real life.

Oddly enough and sticks and rocks (Normandy) are as they should be sharply in focus yet the ground they sit on is not?? And yet a couple of metres out the ground is in focus.

Can this be changed somewhere to give a more natural and realistic in focus effect of the near ground as it makes judging height when looking down at the skids and hence landing more difficult than it already is landing this way.

Plus it just plain looks wrong!

Using VR Rift

Normandy

NTTR

Gazelle

Huey

And 1.5.x before that even on a monitor.

Oddly enough this effect doesn't seem to occur on buildings and other structures?

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

Well no I don't think so I have Depth of Field Off it's just the weirdness of near field being out of focus OR lacking in details where as a stick or rock or my skids or weapons or feet etc in the same field of view are in focus or detailed as they should be whereas landing on objects that are not ground AKA roofs etc objects in the same field of view the surface texture is in focus like everything else.

It was the same in 2.0.x and 1.5.x when I could run terrain textures and MSAA at higher levels both in VR and LCD.

Oh sure sometimes I think it could just be my pareidolia craving for more detail to decode. :P

Okay excuse my flying attempt but look at the near field view it's fuzzy on the ground but not on the roof??

Ah, a vid or a screen is always more useful when trying to explain something.

Nothing odd or unusual about what can be seen here, it's just terrain textures being lower resolution than aircraft, structures and object textures, as it's been the case in all flight simulators. There will always be resolution difference in DCS too, even when both texture options are set to "high".

Tweak your expectations to more realistic level :D. We're still years away from flight sims offering the same terrain texture fidelity as FPS shooters when being down low and slow, while both DCS and Il-2 series already offer the best that can be done with today's technology here, even compared to P3D and XP11. Flying choppers on a flat screen I can say cranking up grass and shadows help with visual height estimation a lot (plus they hide the lower rez terrain somewhat), but I see you have to turn them off for VR performance, so there's no simple solution of your issue.

Perhaps I just thought if DCS has already rendered the surface texture why waste CPU/GPU cycles applying a blur filter when there is other stuff to do. Besides it would look even better then it does now. :D

Thanks for the reply.
