Kuky Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 The DDR2 PC6400 were too expensive for me, and if I'd want to use them I could effectively run the E6600 at 3.6GHz, but I chose to go with very safe 3GHz overclock (from 2.4Ghz default) and get PC5400 to match it, which isn't that much more expensive from PC4200. GiGurra Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 I can run mine stable now at 3,6 GHz stable with my new cooler, but the temps are a bit worrying, so I just run it at 3,4. Well, you can score some modules that are cheap and will overlock well. For example my patriots. 330 stock runnig at 435 1:1 with FSB. Because if you do sand it and make the surface even a bit uneven... you will fxxx up the CPU. Guest IguanaKing Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 The implication is also that you are not generating a static charge when doing so, which you cannot guarantee...in fact, its VERY likely that you are producing a harmful static charge. Lapping the surface of the heat speader on the CPU is definitely a bad idea, since it WILL void your warranty. Just clean the heat spreader with alcohol, and concentrate your lapping/polishing efforts on your HSF. :)

Its been running at an almost constant 39c to 40c... and it's a lot quieter then the last one, AMD 3200 with a stock fan ... I actually got this because I was have some freeze ups with FSX ... And I wasn't sure if the AMD would handle LOBS... I went all the way out this time and got everything new including the key board and mouse, which I actually just picked up 2 days ago, the Logitech DNovo Laser ... Any way the list is so long it would bore the heck you of you guy's .. Another thing that I like is the case, its an Asus 360 in red... Anyway I'll post some new pics in a few days and give everyone the lowdown of all of the parts... ~S~ Blaze Hehe, join the club. Lapping isn't that difficult if done correctly. :) You can get some pretty nice temp improvements out of it. You dont have to run the memory at 1:1 FSB. Most motherboards will allow you to divide, and therefor run value RAM, but still overclock the CPU quite nicely.
