Rhino4 Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Semi-related note: So I've been away from DCS since 2010, just waiting for a fast mover with the fidelity of the 10C to be released. I recently found out about the F18 being released **soon** and decided to give it another shot. I've only had my hotas out of storage for about a week. The actual question: My wife got me an oculus rift for my birthday (a few days ago), so I decided to give it a go with the A10C. Once I finally figured out how to get into the game, I loaded up a quick mission in the A10 to see if I could remember how to start the damn thing. I immediately noticed two large clunky leather-gloved hands in front of me. It took me a second to figure them out, but they apparently mirror my oculus touch controllers...except backwards and upside-down. Is there a way to fix their orientation? Can I actually do anything with them once I've fixed the orientation? Can I fly the jet and flick switches and all that with them instead of using my hotas (which is rather dated nowadays)? I searched the forums and googled but couldn't turn anything up about it. TL : DR - Oculus touch controllers: do they do anything except give me weird backwards upside-down leather gloves that float directly in my field of view?
rtimmons Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 The touch controllers are useless since you need your hands on the throttle and stick. I just use the mouse to click cockpit controls using my throttle hand.....even if they made a virtual throttle and stick it would still be kind of funky feeling and you would have to keep your arms suspended which would probably make them get tired too quickly. slyfly
Cruachan Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Start the sim without your touch controllers activated and you won't see them. Confused the heck out of me the first time.
Boris Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Yeah, the gloves are a bit of an anomaly at the moment. Probably something ED is testing. SpeedStick Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 The touch controllers are useless since you need your hands on the throttle and stick. Says you. I says it would be great. Im guessing you hate VTOLVR since that whole experience is based on almost everything you bashed in that post. Of course it might not be ideal and there is gonna be problems. Doesnt mean its useless Being able to use it for startup, getting a real workflow down in 3d space. Or maybe imagine for the RIO in the F-14 that would be awesome. or... ect ect. So no its not useless. (I mean yeah they are technically useless as in cant use LOL) "Hard to imagine bigger engine. its got a beautiful face and an arse built like sputnik." - Pikey AKA The Poet, on 37 Viggen.
some1 Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Yeah, the gloves are a bit of an anomaly at the moment. Probably something ED is testing. Been like this for more than a year, more like some abandoned experiment. Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
Nooch Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I guess the virtual gloves will eventually serve when we'll be able to put on VR gloves and be able to click stuff in the cockpit with our own fingers. Probably not for tomorrow though. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
