hansangb Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 So I was playing PUBG when my computer shut down. Turns out, my 1250W PS was going bad because the resource draw on the game. DCS/VR never even came close to taxing it as much as PUBG. While troubleshooting, I realized my CPU was running "hotish" It wasn't close to the max, but it was still hot. So I figured why not try de-lidding. Using RockitCool's gadget makes it soooooo simple to do. That and thermal grizzly conductonaut made a huge difference. So even with Thermaltake AIO cooler, the delid'ing made a big difference. So highly recommended for those wanting to push the CPU. This is one after one hour of playing: And here are the results after delid'ing hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

hansangb Posted October 30, 2017 Author Posted October 30, 2017 Yup, it was during troubleshooting so I didn't OC yet.. Since then, I jacked it up to 4.9GHz with Adaptive Voltage and offset of 50mV on my EVGA Z270 board. I'll try my hand at 5.0/5.1 when I get some time. So far, it's been running like a champ at 4.9GHz in DCS/PUBG w/o no issues. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

The easy one is 1.300vCore with LLC2 and all Phase control and currents at default. This is plenty for any game, Desktop, Handbreak video editing and such. Just when you go IBTv2 or even prime95 with AVX I need to rise vCore to 1.330, LLC to 6 and phase+current control to extreme. That easily adds another 15+°C and would ruin the CPU over time ( pretty quick I guess ). I only did that to find out if it works, it does but would need a delid to be 24/7 safe for 5G-priming. For DCS, I can load DCS up to 5.2G but that sometimes crashes, 5.1G seems stable but is beyond what I think is reasonable and safe for now without delidding mine. hansangb Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Thanks, I'll give it a shot shortly. But that delid'ing tool makes it so damn easy to do it. Must have taken me no more than 40 min (not counting the glue drying time). hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
StandingCow Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Yep, I did this a few months ago and used liquid metal. The stuff intel uses between the IHS and die is absolute crap. It was super easy with the delidding tool. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
the_soupdragon Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 what glue did you use to sick the lid back on? SD [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hansangb Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 I just used Loctite Superglue around the corners. Others used a type of silicone. Bunch of videos on the Rockitcool site. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
StandingCow Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 yep, superglue here as well. I just let it dry first so it isn't conductive. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
Togg Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 (edited) I did it also few months ago on my 7700K (rockitcool, isopropanol, condutonaut and silicon glue) With a simple 140 mm AIO, 57 °C max @ 4.7 Ghz (before around 68 °C) :) Edited November 1, 2017 by Togg [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] https://github.com/Togg-streamdeck/dcs
