Dear pilots,

I have i7 4770k oc, 16gb ram, ssd, freesync 2560x1440 32" 75hz monitor.

Recently Ive moved from amd 290x to gforce 1080 despite i have freesync monitor.

When i swaped graphics and uninstaled amd and instaled nvidia drivers Ive noticed extreme stuttering. Fps was 120, than i limited fps to 60 with not great improvement.

I would like to ask you, if this id normal and i need to change some settings in the drivers or in dcs. Are there any mandatory settings that i have to adjust to have butter smooth experience?

Thank you very much

This subject has been covered in detail elsewhere, so all you need to do is start searching.

And no, there is no straightforward "one answer fits all" hence the seemingly unhelpful reply. It isn't unhelpful, but I am afraid you'll need to do a lot of reading to get to the bottom of it all.

Did you use DDU ( Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode to get rid of any driver remnants before changing to Nvidia?

If not might give that a try.

+1 ! Do a DDU procedure and try again.

You may wanna run a regcleaner as well, I use jv16 tools from macecraft.com for over a decade with excellent results.

What is the speed of the cpu? The 1080 is more demanding than the 290x.

Try Fastsync instead of Freesync.

Go to nvidia control panel, "menage 3D settings" and "Program settings" tab. Select "Digital combat simulator: Black shark (dcs.exe)". Try this settings:

Ambient Occlusion: Not supported for this application (default)

Anisotropic filtering: Application-controlled (set 16x in-game graphics setting)

Antialiasing - FXAA: Off

Antialiasing - Gamma correction: Off

Antialiasing - Mode: Application-controlled (set 2x in game if using PBR in DCS 2.1, otherwise 4x or 8x for HDR in 2.1 or 1.5)

Antialiasing - Setting: Use global setting (Application-controlled)

Antialiasing - Transparency: Off

CUDA - GPUs: Use global setting (All)

Maximum pre-rendered frames: 2 - this setting has a substantial impact on how smooth and responsive the game feels. Higher value - less stutter but can cause a higher input lag. 1 will give a feeling of immediate, no delay from TIR (or mouse) but can introduce a micro-stutter. Try 1 first, it you don't like it and the game stutters too much increase to 2. 3 was too much input lag for me.

Monitor Technology: set Fixed-Refresh. Unfortunately with Free-Sync monitor you should have got an AMD card. Frankly speaking now you should reconsider changing the card or monitor to have compatible adaptive sync technologies.

Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA): (default) Use global setting

Open GL rendering GPU: (default) Use global setting (not applicable for DCS)

Power management mode: With older GPUs i did set it to Prefer Maximum Performance. Now for 1070 I use the Optimal power setting which seems to be just fine.

Preferred refresh rate: Highest available

Shader Cache: (default) Use global setting (on)

Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization: Off

Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Allow (not applicable for DCS since it's not OpenGL based)

Texture filtering - Quality: Quality or High Quality

Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization: Off. Above settings will heavily improve the quality of the texture filtering which in DCS will be mostly noticeable buy a sharper, much less blurry runway and runway paintings (especially in further distance)

Threaded optimization: Off. You can experiment with it but my observation is that it decreases stuttering and input lag. In theory On should be a better setting for newer titles that support multi-threading but in reality that's not always the case and better results are with the option set to Off.

Triple buffering: Off - unless you're running V-sync (which is a really bad idea IMO).

Vertical sync: Off. And off in game. Do yourself a favor and don't turn it on. It's a really old approach to solve the screen tearing which has much more drawbacks than benefits.

Virtual reality pre-rendered frames: no clue, couldn't care less about VR.

Other ideas: do a clean setup of drivers from N-Vidia, make sure to "left Alt + Enter" after being in cockpit. Use a display port cable instead of HDMI. I wouldn't cap the frames though. In DCS graphics options, disable the AI traffic, use "flat shadows".

Hi all, many thanks for your input. I´ve reinstaled whole machine, windows and both versions of dcs. Also applied Firmek´s settings suggestion. But what did really helped - manually set max fps to 60 (not in the dcs config file, but in nvidia inspector) and set my monitor to 60hz. It was huge step in smoothness. Monitor is capable of 75hz and I will experiment with that later. After that changed, I got really smooth gameplay, as long as it stays at 60ps. Despite I´ve set 60 fps as max, it shows in dcs 62 (rctrl+pause). If I go below 60fps, the gameplay is not smooth anymore. And I didn´t use any vsync or fastsync in nvidia drivers, or in dcs, I will test later. Looks like in 1.5 i got fps drops below this point, nevada is better i think. I will further analyze this and post here, maybe somebody will came to same situation.
