LeCuvier Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 I have bound the Communications Menu to a HOTAS button; but using the button in the mission has simply no effect. Also using the key "" (which is ' on a German keyboard) has no effect. Unlike other aircraft, the F-5 doesn't have a "Push to talk" command as far as I see. So how do I get the communication menu? ricktoberfest Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Its the same button as nose wheel steering, but the normal radio button should work too. Try changing the binding to a different key Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Exorcet Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 For whatever reason the key command for the quick radio only works on the ground. Once you are airborne, you must use the NWS button to use the radio. LeCuvier Posted November 9, 2017 Author Posted November 9, 2017 Thanks guys! I mapped the MIC down switch to "UHF Radio Microphone Button" and that works (also in flight condition). Based on the first comment I tried the NWS in flight and that does the same thing. Strange! rweaves6 Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 It's actually neat how realistic that is. In the real plane the NWS shares the same button as the mic. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
LeCuvier Posted November 10, 2017 Author Posted November 10, 2017 Flight manual should be corrected! So this is actually a defect in the flight manual. In the start-up section it states repeatedly "Switch on radio communication menu |\|" and that is clearly not right. Later in the JTAC communication section, it says "Switch on radio communication menu RAlt + |\|" which in fact initiates the command "UHF Radio Microphone Button" with default bindings. Also in the Options -> Commands screen they should remove the command "Communication menu" (which means remove it from the "default.lua"), because ignorant people like myself try to use it. Out of interest: In the real F-5E I understand the NWS button only activates the radio when it's airborne. How do they communicate with the ATC or ground crew when they are on the ground?
