To be out sometime may-june, and Im planing buying a PC in the near future, this is within my window.

http://www.tgdaily.com/2007/01/27/intel_45nm_penryn_details/

Not only the Cored duo at 2.4 GH surpass AMD's FX62 as Intell is already going to leapfrog to 45nm going over AMD still trying catching up on 65nm.

Penryn will come at 2 and 4 cores, with 45 nm technlogy it will be able to push the CPU into the GHz war again into the 3.5-4GHz realm...But AMD is only now grasping the 65nm manufacture process and they havent even started to produce true 4 cores yet.

LOMAC will LOVE penryn, I have decided I will save money for this chip. I feel I shouldnt postpone my buy too long, before Intell grabs more market for itself and before AMD responds with a possible AMD/ATI CPU/GPU combo fiasco.

Even If AMD/ATI solution comes out to be OK if I dont like one of these I will have to skip both right into Intel and Nvidia solutions.

PS: I dont want to sound a PC nerd but I started to study the components in detail in order to get the best choice. :)

Your a dork, lol! :D Stick with what you can afford. Im waiting on my final decision on what Im gonna do with my computer. I shall know within the next 2 weeks and it be finally done! And march...my first upgrade to come thru.

You shouldn't have to worry about Intel jacking their prices after continuing their reign for a while. If anything, they'll lower prices even further to solidify their grasp on the crown. AMD isn't going to get stupid either and introduce compatibility issues between ATI cards and Intel processors. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if AMD decided to go in a different direction and start concentrating on futhering GPU technology. In the end, everybody wins, but I DO hope that both markets will still have fierce competition...this is the new space race boys and girls. :D

On the GPU issue, I have been reading about LOMAC users needing to use specific "profiles" with SLI to get it to work?!!! WTF is that about?!!! I run two X1950s in cross-fire, and only a couple REALLY OLD games have issues that require my activating a different profile. LOMAC works flawlessly with it, with default settings. Then there is the shadow issue with the Nvidia cards...heh...glad I'm an ATI fanboy. :D Oh, BTW, cross-fire gets you 14X AA...and it looks yummy...I can even find helicopters in the weeds in plenty of time to smoke 'em now.

Well I wont have 2 GFX cards, I have always given priority to CPU power over graphics because of my aplications-- engineering, SIM's and RTS's-- tipicaly demand more power from the CPU than the card. If anything I may consider a high end single card later.

I will want a quad core, thats for sure. I wont take much advantage of it right now but since I will come over to vista sooner or later, and that my PC's always last for at least 2.5 years without much of upgrades, Ill be skiping out the Dual cores. Heck if anything Ill distribute all my background OS, and working tasks in 3 CPU's and leave one for gaming. With vista this will be automatic, so no worries. :)

Heh...I just had a butt-load of cash in my "new computer" fund, so I went "balls to the wall". Just something to think about with support issues and what-not. ;)

The X6800...yup. Its friggin' awesome. Gaming performance is one thing, but this thing encodes DVD video like someone is trying to catch it and eat it (I make a lot of in-flight emergency troubleshooting vids that I can't share here). My old P4 3.4GHz machine looks like a slow, fat dinosaur compared to it...and with an over-clock, I'm STILL running on 200 fewer clock cycles per second than that old thing. Along with running an average of 20 degrees C cooler. :D

Sounds sweet. ANyway itll be crazy to buy a top of the line CPU at any given time, but I have never donne that before and I think I deserve to do it at least once! :D

Yep, sounds like penryn will be the point at which LOMAC will truly be a "normal" playing game.

Some things about your exuberance though pilotasso, yes penryn has booted everything but are you sure when it's coming out? The articles are saying the Nehalem will come out in the second half of 2008... there's alot of leeway there... I only mention it because "the waiting game" is an illogical game at times...

and remember pilotasso... top of the line processors nearly always debut with slower brothers with lower prices, which can usually be overclocked to the top of the line. Who knows though, penryn binning may be really tight.

Yeh hitman.... bump your original post about that... you're still scaring me talking about buying DDRI PC4000 ram and socket AM2.... those two formats dont even fit each other...

Grab this setup, on my honor this is the best price/performance you can get, im no fanboy and I follow this stuff constantly.

Mobo - 965p motherboard

CPU - Intel e6300 or e4300

Ram - 2x 1gig of DRR2 667 or go for DDR2 800 (preferably with Micron D9 modules)

GPU - an Nvidia 7xxx or ATI x19xx series card (could wait for the Dx10 midrange from Nvidia to come out, ge8300 and ge8600)

PSU - Corsair HX620w

Hard Drive - 400gb Seagate 7200.10 Sata drive

Naphalem Is a single chip quad core as oposed to 2 Dual side by side comunicating by the chips bus.

And I may or may not change my mind by april. I got a bit too axcited perhaps. I want to see what the new AMD Quad cores can do as well.

Heres what they say

Production of 45 nm Penryn processors is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2007 in Intel's D1D factory in Hillsboro, Oregon. Within weeks, Fab 32 in Chandler, Arizona will go online, followed by Fab 28 in Israel.

[...]the introduction of the Nehalem core, which will succeed Penryn with a completely new 45 nm architecture in the second half of 2008.

As you See Nehalem and Penryn are 2 diffreent things. Nehalems in Penryn successor. Penryn is the one to be released this year, with 2 and 4 core versions.

Some people leaked info that Penryn is going to start being produced sooner than mid 2007, by end of march with shipment 2 months later, wich will "coincidently" be just in time to ruin AMD's new 65nm quad CPU's launch.

I kinda suspect some about that article.

Intel hasnt even installed a tool capable of 45nm yet. P1266 is still in its early beginning, we havent even installed a tool capable of printing 45nm yet. Though I think that is supposed to happen here real soon.

Intel still hasnt decided on what type of tool to use yet. Currently 193nm lasers are the smallest wavelength used to print 65nm. They either need to move to 152nm lasers, which bring a few development issues because resists change and stuff, or go immersion lithography, which also has its own development issues.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immersion_lithography

That gives some account to immersion, and it appears to be the best path, especially since 152nm lasers are not proven in manufacturing yet. Also to note about this, our (Nikon) immersion tool does not have any increased defects or loss of yield due to immersion. We are all very, very excited to see immersion used.

That may be a Penryn core, but its not 45nm.

I am very glad to see thought that Intel has gotten away from the idealogy that MHz = faster. Its just wonderful to see these transistor packed cores, and how much they are gaining compared to just trying to make the MHz faster. Its a very good call from Intel, and the first they have made in a long time.

It truly does not sound good for AMD, but you never know what they will come out with when the competition gets very hard.

Ive been AMD user since 2000. Looks like it will change next year. So far my AMD 4000 is doing well. Seriously, there are no games to justify new system purchase right now. Lomac runs great with 4AA&AF. And CRYSIS might come out in 2008 so we have time. :D

Im still doin the research, and AM2 is out of the question until I get ready for upgrades again. Till then Im going with the e6800(might as well its gonna be a while after my second upgrade in march before I can upgrade anything else...) and applicable ram to go with it. 4 gigs seems good enough for me with all the college stuff Ill be doing.

I wonder what you study, hitman_214th, is it mechanical engineering?

I'm getting out pretty soon - if they don't lure me to stay in the college, that is. Still torn between adventures with my motorcycle and a carrier, 2.5 children with a dog :)

IM taking Cisco Networking next semester, but now Im doin pre-algebra (done that like...4 times in high school moving between states), english, computer literacy:megalol:, and Visual Basics C++ for the time being. I dont need children, I got enough of em having to deal with living here in Colorado Springs...ppl here DRIVE like they are 14 at best. And people wonder why I dont drive.

Hehehe...my brother and me have both noticed the same thing about driving in the Springs. I've been lucky so far, but my brother has already had two people just drive right into the back of him while he was sitting at a red light. I don't know what it is...maybe the DMV is more lax with their driving tests down there or something.

oooh, you work at intell?

Hope you dont mind then saying that I dont want AMD to get pounced too hard. Competition is healthy. :D

Yes sir, but key word is 'at'.

I am a field service engineer for the photolithography tools.

I tell ya tho, seeing 1 chip is pretty cool, but seeing 200+ on a 300mm wafer is something else all together.

And I have been an AMD fan for ages, and I admire them for what they have done considering Intels business practices that have been highlighted in the courts lately.

But I am not loyal to any brand, if Intel is better when I build a new comp, they get my $$$.

Im a lowly pedestrian at best and Ive been hit by idiots 3 times since I came back from Missouri...resulting in 1 fistfight, 2 broken windows and a verbal bashing of the highest order with some stupid blonde who had her foot stuck in the steering wheel cuz the bright switch is on the steering column instead of on the floor. Ive never met a smart driver here in the springs yet. I would drive and show em how to do so but Im afraid the insurance would kill me after a few months with me running people off the road and into the ditch where they belong.
