TooTubular Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I intend to buy FC tonight, but I'd like to download it. My understanding is that FC uses Starforce for protection. Doesn't Starforce require a disc or something? Is FC not downloadable, or am I missing something? Awaiting your responses, thanks.
SuperKungFu Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I recommend the cd version but if you want the download version that's fine. Starforce doesn't mean it has to be on cd, for the download version you get activations. These activations could occur if u make a dramatic upgrade to your system or if you reinstall or whatever. I believe you get 15 now? (it use to be 5). You could also back up your register with the tools they provided on lockon.ru so you don't need to reactivate after reinstall. Once you run out of activations, you have to contact their support group to get a new set (time will vary for getting the new set). That is why i chose the cd version because IMHO the activations seems to be sortof a hassle and if they were on a holiday or wasn't working, they can't give you the new set of activations once you run out. For the cd version, you put in the cd once a week and your set. Others would prefer it differently but its really up to you. Btw, wise choice on getting FC. :thumbup: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

So you would have to take some extra steps if you have to the download version to match up to the cd version. For example, i think you would need to install the season pack, and something else. Has some advantages too.. like: it doesn't require a CD in the drive, it is cheaper, I think and you can back it up whereever you want. Just remember too back up the registries entries in case you need to make an reinstall of Windows. To restore you need after you reinstall windows to install the game (take good care if you have Modman addon packs installed you should uninstall them too before you erase the windows) then before you run it first time insert the backed up registry entries. Disadvantages are the activation thing that can be tricky for some. You have to be careful when you do it what each "code" represent... cause they are 3 of them :) Also a small disadvantage is the fact that it comes in parts... main, season pack and movies. Don't forget that the patches are separate for download version from the CD version as there are small differencies between the two... at packing I supose :) . Prophet Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I have the download version too, and had no issues. For me the activation backup hasnt seemed to work so well. I think I only have 2 activations left, but I think that should be enough until BS comes out.
