Cake Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Hey guys. DCS 1.5.8.x and DCS 2.2.x installed Both clean installs with NO mods. Windows 10 - Samsung 830 512Gb SATA - ASUS Z170 Premium i7-6700K Upgrading to 960EVO 1Tb m.2 - This will run both the OS and DCS. . I've also recently switched from a 390X to 1080ti without deactivating. Questions: 1. I'm not sure yet if I will clone or do a fresh install of Windows 10. Any thoughts? 2. Either way, I'm assuming that I should deactivate all of my modules because of the multiple hardware changes. To deactivate, is there an order I should follow? Do I deactivate on version 2.2 or 1.5.8 first? Or do I just deactivate on one of the versions? If I clone, is there any reason I should do a clean install of DCS? 3. Any recommendations on free/inexpensive clone software? 4. Sort of unrelated, but is anyone seeing big gains going from 16Gb to 32Gb? Wondering if I should do that at the same time? Thanks. 6700K@4.6 48Gb - 1080Ti Hybrid - Warthog - RIFT
Johnny_Rico Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 1. Clone it unless you are having issues with that install 2. Deactivate first, u can change a couple of things before trigger re-activation 3. I have used acronis for 10+ years now and it is great (some SSD manufacturers have free cloning software?) 4. I went from 16 to 32 on my last upgrade BUT it was a totally new build went from DDR3 1600Mhz to DDR4 3866Mhz ( I do some dev with vm's so wanted tons of RAM, your mileage may vary METAR weather for DCS World missions Guide to help out new DCS MOOSE Users -> HERE Havoc Company Dedicated server info Connect IP: 94.23.215.203 SRS enabled - freqs - Main = 243, A2A = 244, A2G = 245 Please contact me HERE if you have any server feedback or METAR issues/requests
BitMaster Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Hey Cake, yes, deactivate them, I myself just lost one complete activation across all modules yesterday night only by Bios settings and RAM overclocking, believe it or not. You better play safe. YOu can easily clone your drive, no need to reinstall if you have no other reasons to do so. The included ( or better downloaded ) Magician software from Samsung does a pretty good job. Install the newest 2.3 NVMe driver from Samsung right after boot and check for Firmware Updates soon as they had an issue and pulled the last version off the servers, yours is safe if untouched and the bad firmware is as said not available anymore. You may want to google that issue to be aware, again, the drive itself is safe if you run the 2B7Q.. version firmware and not the 3xxxx Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

hansangb Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 You do get one activation per month, so even if you run completely out of activation, you can still install it (albeit once per month). But you should deactivate it since it only takes seconds to do. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
cichlidfan Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 (edited) You do get one activation per month, so even if you run completely out of activation, you can still install it (albeit once per month). But you should deactivate it since it only takes seconds to do. Not quite correct. After you use all of your activations, a 30 day clock starts. When the clock hits zero, you get a single activation. That activation is all you will get until you use it. Once you use it, the 30 day clock starts again after which you will receive another activation. It is also worth noting that deactivations do not replenish so using them only when you need to is wise. Cake Posted December 21, 2017 Author Posted December 21, 2017 Thanks everyone. Do I need to deactivate once each for my two installs? 1.5 and 2.2? 6700K@4.6 48Gb - 1080Ti Hybrid - Warthog - RIFT
BitMaster Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 No, just in one. RePhil Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 YES be careful of deactivating I for one did not know there was a limit and only have one left and I did not know I did not need to deactivate when just trying to do a clean install on same machine when things did not work properly [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Window 10, i9-9900,2080TI, 32GB ram Puma Pro Flight Trainer, 2 x 1TB WB SSD NVMe HP Reverb
Cake Posted December 24, 2017 Author Posted December 24, 2017 Upgrade went well, thanks all. Once thing I noticed was that most of my modules had 8 or 9 activations left. For some reason the Viggen only had four. That was a recent purchase and I'd only activated it once, then and deactivated it today, so how can there be only four left? 6700K@4.6 48Gb - 1080Ti Hybrid - Warthog - RIFT
