Mr_sukebe Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 Not sure if I'm alone on feeling this, but to me, I seem to get shot by ground fire a LOT more than I'd expect from my reading over the years, and that's even with them set to "average". Any chance of this either being reviewed, or if possible, have a "slider" level for units accuracy, such that we can modify them. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
Mars Exulte Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 By ground fire, I assume you mean AAA? Most AAA has radar guidance and often at least partial automation. It's also designed to kill low flying aircraft. It's good at that, or they wouldn't build them. Depending on the scenario, if it's a more realistic scenario I can only say that sometimes the other side gets a kill, too. If you're getting shot by stray AAA in a non layered, low threat environment, I must ask... why are you flying that low? The best defense against AAA and MANPADS is to fly over 10,000 feet, if this is an option that won't expose you to greater threats. If this is an option and you are flying low, then it's your own fault. ''According to what you read''? You mean large aerial campaigns with ECM, SEAD, highly trained pilots vs possibly poorly trained or outmatched opponents? As I noted in another thread, in Vietnam the US lost 4,000 aircraft, mostly to SAMs and AAA, and despite being well trained and having a massive ECM advantage. I don't know what you've been reading, but I'd suggest it's taken out of context or not a good source. Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
Mr_sukebe Posted January 16, 2018 Author Posted January 16, 2018 I get the missiles, but less sure about accuracy of machine guns, canons etc. So for example, whilst ground straffing in a mustang. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat
Knock-Knock Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Ive come cross this a lot too, and I feel like rifle fire, armor and light armor is far more dangerous than say a Shilka. In WW2 ive lost numerous planes due to a single hit (sound) from a rifle. In the modern jets, the light armor (BTR etc) and tank's machine guns are like snipers. A lot of this might have to due to the with current damage model? - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
Mars Exulte Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 Oh, yeah, in a WWII plane, yeah, it'd be a problem lol Yeah, they may be a bit too accurate then :P I mean, a lot of fighters were equipped with rifle caliber weapons, but the odds of bringing a fighter down with small arms would be relatively low, I'd think. Still, if you approach them head on in a straight line, that's pretty much the easiest shot. A rifle CAN damage the engine or kill the pilot, and if you fly nice and pretty for him, it makes it a lot easier. You should still try to minimise your exposure, and not get right on the deck. Make your strafing runs from up a bit higher and don't fly directly toward the target until the last few seconds. Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
