Looking for at least a GTX 1080, what 1080 is currently a good model?

I have a freesync monitor, is it then also worth going for AMD instead?

I have had AMD for many years now. The last drivers have been a complete mess, at least for me. They have developed something called "RELive" that is not possible to get rid of, it pops up when in game and blocks the mouse and starts monitoring the system so the cpu and gpu goes to new heating heights! Crap! Go nVidia.

I'm using AMD/ATi on all my computers since 1996 (with a one year Nvidia stopgap in 2007). I did intend to replace my current card last year with one of the new Vega cards, but they turned out pretty crappy so I choose not to. Buying a 1080 from Nvidia is also not an option for me as they are 2 years old by now and I'm not buying a new graphics card that is that old. So I'm waiting what comes next from both, Nvidia and AMD, and will decide what to buy then.

I'm pretty sure you can deselect RELive when installing the drivers, which is what I did, so I've never encountered RELive or any of these problems you mentioned.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

I got triple fan 1070 because it is noticeably quieter than the reference designs with two.

I've yet to see less than 60fps with my i5-3570k + 1070 @ 3440x1440 with DCS 2.5. So run your freesync monitor @ 60Hz and turn on vsync and get happy :)
