I think it depends on what you're landing on. I think runway ops call for Anti-skid ON (Caster), and carrier ops call for NWS, so you can use the Hi-gain steering on the deck.

 

That's probably a totally incorrect and gross simplification, though.

I've always used cast with brakes applied at touchdown but am not sure if this is correct procedure. Also, is it correct to take off from the carrier with nws set to cast? That's how the aircraft is configured for a hot ramp start, is that only for vtol and nws norm for stol?
