MBot Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 In the past we have seen many screenshots of vehicles that have gunners or drivers either turned in or out. There are also vehicles that have hatches opened/closed or weapon launchers ready or stowed. Turned out: http://www.lockon.ru/img/products/large/676baec4f5b7571b45b8a1801c7e29f0.jpg Turned in: http://www.lockon.ru/img/products/large/fe1a2d4be5c9da0fd118de0518552357.jpg Obviously there exists some sort of safe-state for units. Are the beta testers or ED in a position to comment on how the AI logic behind that state works ? Can it be preset in the editor and how is it affected during the game ?

As far as I can tell, personel will "dive" into the vehicule and close amoured window protection panels when enemy vehicules come within visual range. For vehicules with retractable weapons launchers, these are "stowed" by default and automatically extend just before an engagement - i.e. in the same way as is currently the case in FC for e.g. the BUK SAM launcher vehicules. So it is automatic and cannot be set by the user via the Editor :) JJ
EscCtrl Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 When the gunner takes cover will there be an animation for it? or does he just snap from one position to the next?
Alfa Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 When the gunner takes cover will there be an animation for it? or does he just snap from one position to the next? It is animated - there isn't much involved, but it is a smooth transition that looks natural :) . JJ
*Rage* Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 It is animated - there isn't much involved, but it is a smooth transition that looks natural :) . Nice. I think Black Shark will be a pleasant surprise when it is released. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
MBot Posted February 24, 2007 Author Posted February 24, 2007 Nice. I guess for the M113 the logic is inversed ( idle inside, with enemy contact outside at the gun ) ? I still have the hope that this animation will be utilized to best effect when more advanced AI routines are in place ( being able to surprise units that feel safe etc. ) :) While we are at the subject of old unanswered questions, here comes another one: http://www.lockon.ru/img/products/large/347ebe0b8aca2d838dbfcb67d3996863.jpg Some time ago we saw a screenshot of this guy. Back then I wondered which country that unit belongs to. By the look of it, is there a chance that there will be a new "rebel" faction in BS ? Also does he carry a Igla or perhaps even a Strela-2 ( SA-7 ) ? Is there any new word on this ?
Vekkinho Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 My Gosh! That's Osama himself... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

No I don't think so Mbot - currently he serves in the Georgian army :) Also does he carry a Igla.. It is an Igla yes :) JJ
Force_Feedback Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 The rebels do fly rogue su-25s that pwn ka-50s with S-5s \m/ What about unprepared runways? can we finally use the su-25(T) the way it was meant to? Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
MBot Posted February 25, 2007 Author Posted February 25, 2007 What about unprepared runways? can we finally use the su-25(T) the way it was meant to? That might be possible... I think I read that betatesters have landed the Ka-50 on rooftops. That would indicate that work has been done on the collision detection of structures ( in FC you explode when trying to touch-and-go on buildings, even with the AFM Su-25 ). If that is true, it should be possible to create wonderful dirt and grass strips as static objects that can actually be used. We can create such strips and import them as static objects right now, but as mentioned in FC you can not land on them. In BS this might be possible.
