New features neede for F-5E-3

Flew first combat cluster ... in the F-5E-3 last night.

 

The aircraft had no power, maneuverability, or situational awareness.

Weapons went dry fast.

 

The F5's were cannon fodder.

 

Since then, I have learned a few things that may help next time out.

I wish the F-5E-3 could be retrofitted it with a few modern electronics, but I realize that will never happen.

I do like flying it though.

And yes, thanks to a suggestion, learned how to squeeze more horsepower out of the old bird.

 

Its got plenty of power if you know how to use it, the thing is a tiny nimble fighter not intended to fight 4 or 4+ gen fighters toe to toe. its design by nature was a stripped down fighter designed to take on the Mig-21. and can hold its own against any gen 3. if you understand its limitations you can succeed now I am not saying its perfect but its got its own flavor that even after some more well known planes come out will still have followers.

the aircraft you are describing as in wanting is not a F-5 but the F-20 just an FYI and sorry but that most likely will not happen.

 

 

 

 

They won't even add AGM-65s because they don't have enough documentation about the pilot's interface for it, and you believe that they'll add un-specified and unrealistic changes based on your post because you want to 'take on the big boys'? I somehow very much doubt that. :D

 

The F-5E-3 is staying as it is. You want to fight modern fighters, get yourself a modern fighter. There are plenty of them in the sim.

 

true, its a shame we dont have that capability to fire the AGM's .. Id personally like to see them improve the model to N model or maybe jump from the N to the F-5E-3 which has a cockpit in between what we have now and the F/a-18, can carry the python missile family vs the Aim-9 as well as 120's and most importantly A2A refueling. But that being said you go too modern with it and you have another less capable F/A-18. and lose the F-5's flavor to an extent

 

 

 

that being said if we were talking hypothetical situations in the early 80's / 90's,

 

the US left shady politics and shady deals behind.. and Northrop was left alone to sell the F-20 to foreign customers you got a alternate reality and the US aligned govts who otherwise would be hard pressed to buy the expensive f-16 lining up to buy the F-5 /F-20. *note the F-5/F-20 is the cheapest of the "teen Series" by 3 million USD from the F-16A and was 60% cheaper to operate and maintain. - the plane has its place, like a stripped down hotrod that likes a knife fight in a phonebooth.

I am unable to climb above 38500 - 39200 feet MSL

Tonight I climbed to 48k ft just fine. No stores, 60% internal fuel when I got up there.
