I have searched for anything about this but not found anything, so forgive me if it's been mentioned before and please point me to it in that case. Also I'm not sure it belongs here, it might be a general DCS issue.

So, I have made a small training mission for practicing rocket rounds on bunkers. In it I utilize the Simple Range Script to measure how far away from my targets (more correctly from the center of a trigger zone) my rockets hit. With a slight modification of the script I get indication every time a rocket hit a bunker.

Thanks to this one can easily see that quite often one rocket generates two hit counts (yes, the Shark fire minimum two rockets, and hence often generates four hits). These double hits can be confirmed in the ' windows and briefing after leaving the mission.

In general it's the KOM rockets that does this in both 1.5.7 and 2.5, but I believe I've seen it for OFP too in 1.5.7.

Anyone noticed this before? We are two who have seen this in my mission. I don't believe it's related to the script used, but I will try to verify it without it when I get the time (will be away for a couple of days during the holidays).

And is it a bug or a feature?

Thanks!

PS in this text, "hits" refer to actual hits by single rockets registered by the game, not visual hits (many rockets seems to hit the bunker but only a few, if any, deals any damage, i.e. hit count)

PPS the OFP is much harder for me to get hit counts on bunkers in 2.5 than it is in 1.5.7, have something changed?

I have seen the double hit count many times, for a long time with all kinds of rockets and missiles and aircraft. But it does not always happen. I have always assumed that it is some kind of "feature" (fudging the numbers) to distinguish really good hits (more damage) from so-so hits (less damage). But this is just a guess, I don't really know.

Yeah, I wondered if this issue was unique for the rockets or more widespread, haven't tested thoroughly enough and don't have the time now. Thanks for confirming that. It's with other aircrafts too, I guess?

It's my thought as well that it might be a feature like the one you suggest, would be nice to have some official confirmation if it is thought.

Maybe those double hits are the product of a sort of workaround made by ED to take into account for the direct and fragmentation effect on targets.
That came to mind.

Hit and explosion.

I think the KOM rockets have dual-stage warheads, i.e. each rocket makes one boom to drill the hole, then a second boom to make whatever you're booming go... Boom.

That's probably it.

I think it's the S-8T you refer to, tandem HEAT warheads:

It seems to be a common understanding that it is either a quality of the hit thing or "hit-n-frag". I'm leaning towards the quality of the hit, since we also get single registered hits. Would be great to have some official info.
