I had an Alienware at one time, the limiting factor was the bus speed of the low end motherboard used by Dell for these builds. See if you can get the serial number off of it and that'll help with analysis.

That number didn't come up with any results. Must be something else. Maybe you can find it in your documentation sent with the system.

Ok, lets try this one. These are the only two on the motherboard. Hope this is it.

That thing is about 8 years old isn't it? I got pretty much the same mb in my old rig but with lower end gpu. Think was a gtx 460. so your mb is very limiting your options for future upgrades indeed. And if you want to play dcs enjoyable get a new rig which is meeting the recommended specs.

That's exactly what I have been debating. Look's like a new rig coming my way.

Unfortunately, that is the most viable option. You might gain a tiny bit with a newer GPU but the rest of the system will be holding you back.

Really because DCS is maxed out at 1440p on my x58 system. I am running slid gtx 1070s 24 gig ram, Xeon x5680 hex core running at 4.5. Only thing is slow load times due to hard drive not being ssd. There is not a game out there that I dont play on max settings right now and get great framerates. No studders of slow downs. Will I upgrade my system sometime soon, yes. Probably to a x299 or the next intel, just not in the cards right now.

Sorry for being a NOOB, but what does SLID mean?

he means SLI, the "d" is most likely a type error.

SLI stands for nVidia's way of combining 2 or more cards. There is 2, 3 and 4-way SLI.

scan-line-interleave...was it that written out ?

Sorry for the late reply by yeah, its new computer time. Disregard any talk of SLI. DCS does not support it.

less and less games will use SLI, however they want to go for multi GPU now (doesn't use the bridge and you could use any 2 GFX even from different brands) but that is a couple of years in the future at least untill the new API's DX12 and Vulkan are widely adopted by the gaming indiustry. Not sure if DCS conversion to Vulkan will immediately enable that or not.

Any good suggestions on a good computer to get to run DCS on top settings?

i7 9700K or Ryzen 2800x

Nvidia 1180Ti

Lots of RAM.

If money is no Problem.

- i7-8700k ( mabye binned if you want a guaranty for 5G(+) )

- a good motherboard. MY Asus hates my RAM, so I cant recommedn my Asus. Gigabyte has nice boards too. Anything that has TWO NVMe ( most have )

- 32GB RAM ( speed is secondary, first look the 32GB shelf, if you then have money left, grab a

fast kit )

- NVMe Drive 2 x, 1xOS and 1xDCS(Games)

-Geforce 1080Ti/TitanXP/1180 whatever you like ( Gsync ! )

- Gsync Monitor of your choice

- HOTAS of your choice ( I would not buy TM gear now with all options available )

- TiR5pro + VR Headset so you cover it all

- a GOOD GOOD Powersupply, dont cut corners here, Seasonic Prime 850w or bigger.

- A DECENT cooling for your CPU (and GPU). I like DIY waterloops but a good AIO is also OK.

I recommed no smaller than Corsair H110i or Kraken X72, like that. A DIY loop is better but costs more, tho it lasts longer overall.

- A Case that holds all this, I recommend full size but it's a matter of taste too. Just check it holds your i nternal radioators if you go AIO ( I like BIG external rads a lot more ).

Alternativ: AMD 2700x plus a DIY Loop and a hefty 4.5G-OC, that should work too but we dont know yet.

Touching on BitMaster's reply, I think in general we need to wait to see what the next gen processors are capable of, and we also need to know how important it will be to have a processor with multiple cores for the future DCS versions. Multi-core could be crucial if DCS becomes significantly multi-threaded.
