nessuno0505 Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 2.5 release version, played in VR with oculus rift. I've switched off deferred shading and set HDR, in order to try if night lighting was better, but I've noticed, playing daytime, that with deferred shading off the sky is layered with clouds of different shapes and heights, while with deferred shading on the sky is more flat and with less clouds. Is this a bug? Otherwise, terrain and trees with deferred shading off are much worse. So summing up: Deferred shading on / hdr off: - better trees, colors and terrain lights - worst night lighting and cockpit illumination (almost unplayable) - worst sky, less clouds and less layered Deferred shading off / hdr on - worst trees and terrain graphics (very similar to dcs 1.5.8 ) - better night lights and cockpit lightings (is the only way to play night time missions) - better sky and clouds This is a behaviour suitable for an open alpha / early access release, not for a product labelled as a release version. And this affects all dcs modules (at least all I own: a-10c, ka-50, fc3, l-39, f-5). I'm very impressed by raindrops over f/a-18 canopy, but frankly I think these here above should be much more urgent issues to work on. Who cares about raindrops, if I cannot play night time missions cause I can't see my avionics, or I cannot fly through clouds cause they appear or disappear depending on my graphic settings?
imacken Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Been discussed many times here already. It's one of the major gripes, and it seems that ED are working on addressing these issues in the near future. Nooch Posted April 23, 2018 Posted April 23, 2018 Deferred shading also makes aircrafts and vehicles nearly impossible to spot at a distance. The problem is that trees look indeed ugly without it so turning it off isn't very satisfying either. On NTTR it's okay because there aren't that many trees but on Caucasus it's a different story. Also some textures don't work properly with deferred shading activated. For example the needles of the A-10C fuel indicator become transparent and contacts on the Mirage radar screen appear with a green background to them. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
nessuno0505 Posted April 23, 2018 Author Posted April 23, 2018 Been discussed many times here already. I know, and I don't want to be repetitive... but why then a release version? Shouldn't they keep 2.5 only in beta branch and wait to have a more bug-free release version? At the moment there's no real difference between open beta and release version (at least they named it "release" and not "stable"). I hope this choice could accelerate 3rd party developers work, since now they are forced to focus only on 2.5, and maybe it is a more future proof choice, but it's the only explanation I can find for a so rushed publication of the release branch.
