Hey all

I'm currently on 2.5.0 and would like to update to 2.5.1.

Have a slight problem though, in that the SSD where I have DCS World installed only has 2.5GB free space.

I'm guessing that needs to be >11GB because I see from the updater that the download is just under 11GB. And I am assuming the download will fail because of insufficient space on the SSD.

I don't have anywhere to move DCS World to though (too big), but I do have enough space on other drives to store the update files.

Can I tell the updater to store the files somewhere other than on the drive DCS is on?

Even if it was possible (which I think is not), you will need more space anyway. If I recall updater messages correctly, it copies new files into the folder before deleting old ones (someone correct me if I'm wrong). That's where you're in trouble, as there are two, massive, single .surface5 extension files in Nevada and Caucasus folders, which 2.5.0 needs updated, and which are 4 & 6+ GB big respectively.

Ah OK thanks. I managed to free up some space by moving my =>100GB IL2 1946 install to an external drive temporarily.

Still a PITA though, as I've run out of SATA ports on my motherboard (Asus Z97-P) and I can't really afford to buy a new/larger SSD at the moment.

Oh well.

I have a similar problem.

I purchased a 250 GB SSD to install 2.5. (fresh install).

IF I also wanted to get the Persian Gulf Map, it would leave me with only 10 GB on that SSD.

I'm not sure that would work so well.

Is there no way to redirect where a Map gets installed ?

Just buy a 2nd SSD of same size and Raid-0 it.

IRST is not the best Raid there is but if you only have DCS on it it's ok I guess. I do the exact same thing with 2 x 256GB 850's

Hi all.

I have the same problem.

Now I have to move my X-plane 11 all the time and transfer it back to my m2 drive.

Before I had relocated my complete IL2 Bos installation to a new SSD, because of this.

REQUEST:

Please make the updates smaller or the option to change its download location.

Or make a downloadable update Zip file.

Hi Grippen7

I should point out that I was factually incorrect regarding the Size of the Persian Gulf Map and resulting issues I thought I would have.

As it turns out, when I was looking at the Recommended Settings/Hardware at the bottom of the Persian Gulf Map Details Page which states that 120 GB is required for installation, that information was regarding installation of ALL of DCS's current Maps and Modules. NOT JUST the PG Map. In fact, the map took up relatively little space on my SSD.

I have all the Maps and Most of the Aircraft installed (I don't have Flaming Cliffs OR any of the Migs or other Korean War Era aircraft Mods) and I still have 93.7 GB's left on my SSD.

I only have DCS installed on my SSD and the total space currently used up is 139 GB's.

So I just wanted to clarify that. I apologize for any and all confusion I have caused anyone.

That said, I still believe it would be useful if we could choose what gets installed where. It would be handy to be able to select Where we install large mods/maps etc without having to install everything only in one location. But that's just my opinion ... and so far, many of those have proven to be useless !

Best Wishes to you Friend.

Hi SnowTiger

Today I installed the latest update and I had to make around 32 GB's free to just install the several updates it was downloading to get version 58.

My total DCS openbeta installation is 171 GB large. I had to free up several times more GB's to install the update files from about 18 GB's each.

This by uninstalling several X-Plane 11 aircrafts that are on the same M2 SSD harddrive.

For me it would be better to download a zipfile with the update to an other harddrive.

I hope ED can bring us the option soon to choose your own update file location, because this is very time consuming.

Best regards, Grippen7
