Program2 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I am trying to create a mission on my own. How can I set a plane to bomb an airbase (runway) I have created 1 waypoint for a bomber which goes directly over an airbase and set it to ATTACK TARGET but once the bomber hits the waypoint it simply turns around and goes back home without dropping the bombs. Thanks for the help.
159th_Viper Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Your Attack Waypoint must be a fair distance from the intended target - approximately 10km minimum to err on the side of caution. 1 Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Program2 Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Still didn't work :( . I moved the waypoint within 10 km of the target. For the Plane's Task I have 'Runway Attack' is this correct?
Ironhand Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 So far so good. Now click on the aircraft's "Attack" waypoint to select it. Next click the 'Targeting' button. Finally click on the Runway (Airbase) icon in the center of the primary runway. You should see the airbase's name appear on the 'Object' line in the target information box. You're done. Ian_L Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Also, I don't remember if this has an effect on a runway attack, but make sure that you select to attack with "bomb only" in the targeting box that Rich just mentioned. Nothing more annoying than watching an AI plane trying to finish off a target with its internal gun...
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Also double check that your bomber is actually carrying weapons. If you change the TASK of an aircraft that can zap the weapons back to empty..... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

Program2 Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 Okay back on topic, Bombers are bombing their designated targets. Now the question is: Is there a way to make the bombers take off from the same airbase as you? When I set the bomber to 'TAKE OFF FROM PARKING AREA/RUNWAY' I do not see the bomber even if the time is set as my take off time for example "12:00:00". Now if I set my plane to start in the air. I see the bomber taxi and take off. It would be nice to be able to take off from the ground with the bomber for escort missions. Thank you for the advance answers.

If yours and bomber time for take off is same, the bomber is waiting till you take off. After 3 mins you take off he appear and start. 1 The Tunnel at the End of the Light
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 It will only work if you are all from the same country. You need the bomber to be in the same GROUP as you. Simple example, GROUP: AirgroupUSA01 SIDE: USA FLIGHT: 1 of 2 is the bomber - eg B-52 FLIGHT: 2 of 2 is escorting fighters- eg. a pair of F-15's, PILOT: 1 of 2 (you) and PILOT: 2 of 2 (your AI wingman) Set take off from parking area. You should now both spawn on the airbase at the same time. Of course with many airbases, you will be on one side of the base, the bomber at the other. Also the taxi time to the runway for some bases is huge (up to 10 minutes!!). AI always taxi at the same speed, there is no way to make AI taxi faster. You have to pick a base carefully or else use CNTRL/A and ALT/A to accelerate/decelerate the Sim speed. See this thread for a list of approx taxi times for all bases , plus info on which bases will place your player aircraft closeby to the AI, which will always try to start in a HAS (hardened aircraft shelter) if they are small enought to fit. http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=10922&highlight=taxi+time 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose!
