Devil 505 Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 I tried looking for this in other posts and was unable to locate if anything. Does anybody know why the FLIR color was changed to green from its original black and white Hot color? Is this the authentic color? I always believed it to be black and white. Also, when activating the FLIR on the HUD for night flying, it is too bright or too dim. No gain control. Anybody else having the same issue? I just wind up flying with NVG's on. I would like to utilize the heads up FLIR more often though. Thoughts? Opinions?
joey45 Posted May 27, 2018 Posted May 27, 2018 It's what the real deal has regarding the FLIR. Not sure about the FLIR on the HUD The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Devil 505 Posted May 27, 2018 Author Posted May 27, 2018 When activating the thermal (FLIR) on the Heads up display now, it is a really dark colored green, the secondary color is a washed out white or green, too bright to see anything. On the original release, the FLIR mode was black and white. Many videos on youtube showing it this way. Since the update, the colors on the MFD and HUD for FLIR are dark green. I was wondering if this is closer to the real FLIR. I have worked with FLIR before on Airbus helicopters and it has alawys been black and white. I was wondering if there was a bug in the module. Below are two photos, first was the original NAVFLIR, and the second is the updated NAVFLIR. I am going to try and add the TGP and see if this changes anything. Might be my lack of knowledge with the Harrier.
Devil 505 Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 Ok, so I just finished a night flight and loaded up the TPOD. TPOD works fine on MFD with Green FLIR. When using the Harriers on board NAVFLIR system, its useless for me at night. When activating the FLIR on the hud its either way to dark and you can not see anything, or its so bright, it blinds you and there is nothing visible in the HUD. Is anybody else having this issue after the previous update flying at night with the AV-8? The only functional way to fly at night is with the NVG's.
joey45 Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 The green helps with the Night Vision head gear. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Devil 505 Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 Thanks gents, I think I have it figured out now.
Nealius Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 There are two gain/brightness/somesuch knobs for the HUD, between the HUD knob and the radar altitude switch. Those don't control gain/brightness for the HUD NAVFLIR?
Devil 505 Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 Last I checked, they were not implemented, but going to be in a future update. I need to control the gain so they are not washed out. I will try the gain control again but I am pretty sure it is not implemented yet.
Devil 505 Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 Its a no go. Just loaded up my night mission over the Persian Gulf. Got the NAVFLIR up and running, not able to adjust the gain or brightness on either color level. Look forward to this being adjusted so we can see properly at night with it.

Those don't control gain/brightness for the HUD NAVFLIR? This is razbam...they still haven't implemented brightness control on the M-2000 HUD. Something that is a particular sore spot for me... ;P ...so no. And I wouldn't expect it anytime soon unfortunately. BUT! The good news is you can adjust the brightness of the cautions / warnings panel...
