Turnip Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I was reading other posts about these approaches and wanted to make sure I was on the right track. 1) Is TACAN a precision approach? It appears as if, although TACAN is more precise than ADF for example, the minimums are greater than standard ILS. 2) If the Hornet doesn't have a standard ILS type system, how do you perform a precision approach to a non-TACAN airfield?
IvanK Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Tacan approaches are Non Precision approaches as no vertical guidance is given hence the higher minima. Many foreign RAAF,RCAF,Swiss,Spain (and the Blue Angels) Hornets also have civilian VOR/ILS and DME fitted allowing these type of approaches to standard VOR/ILS equipped airfields.
Turnip Posted May 30, 2018 Author Posted May 30, 2018 Seeing how the button is there, wonder if they will implement this into the Hornet.
ED Team Wags Posted May 30, 2018 ED Team Posted May 30, 2018 Seeing how the button is there, wonder if they will implement this into the Hornet. It is in regards to ICLS, which will be used for carrier recoveries. Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/wagmatt Twitch: wagmatt System: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3729544#post3729544
