If I select the HUD Attitude select switch to STBY I get the correct INS ATT caution on the DDI, however the Velocity Vector in the HUD remains displayed. I think this is a bug.

I believe (well it did in the FA18A 30 years ago pre GPS etc :) ) the Velocity vector is removed from the HUD when the HUD attitude switch is set to STBY as the STBY AI is then used as the Attitude reference for the HUD. In addition the HUD pitch ladder then in the FA18A showed an ever so slight jitter in the vertical plane

Edit Yes still the same from the NATOPS:

Yep, same thing for me.

Theres another thread about that ins-att on the main f18c forum, another guy reporting the same as well.

For now leaving att source on auto works fine for me and no message displayed.

I have had this happen after a complete shutdown, and restart.

According to the MPCD I didn't need to re-align the INS (accuracy showed as 99.9), but the INS-ATT displayed on the left MDI as well. It made for an interesting flight afterwards, since I had to use the backup instruments a lot ;)

Switching between INS/AUTO/STBY didn't change anything, so I uncaged/recaged the HUD a few times and used the "W" and the climb/descent-dial for reference.

I understand it switches between INS/AUTO/STBY but what exactly is the purpose of it?

As per my understanding.

INS Velocity vector will be displayed.

STBY the velocity vector will be replaced by W. using the Standby indicator in place of the velocity vector.

If the INS failed. W will show. As per procedure you have to re-align the INS.

In auto, is that what we normally see on the HUD?

Thanks
