Wow just tried a mission using the TPOD and the GBU 12.....holy cow this takes multi tasking to a whole new level.......spot target, adjust heading, fly steady autopilot on......turn on tpod, set laser code, arm bombs, autopilot off, dive towards the target to get a tpod position, back to lvl flight autopilot back on ,slew the tdc over target area, click on the wide/narrow btn, adjust the zoom, try not to crash,re trim aircraft, watch speed, confirm tdc lock is in the correct area, select laser, follow guide line, press pickle, fire laser....and crooss your fingers and avoid hitting the dirt........phew....thats an insane amount of workload man....theres gotta be easier ways to destroy ground targets or is there an easier way to do this ?

i watched several utube vids but they all look pre scripted with one target clearly visible and everything set in the cockpit ready or in one vid the guy was even on top of a building stationary haha any wonder......think i need a copilot for these missions

Why do you think there is a crew of 2 in F-15E, F/A-18D/F, Tornado, Mirage 2000D ? :D

It isn't really easier with A-10C, apart from firing the laser :smilewink:

The A10C makes it a bit easier because the HOTAS is integrated with the TPOD and everything. You can also make mark points and stuff directly from HOTAS, for later automatic slewing and destruction. With the Harrier (and I guess the Hornet) there's a lot of MFD buttons pressing going on, no markpoints and the whole system is rather clunky in comparison.

Well you can set the TPOD to be manipulated with the Sensor Select Switch. By following the instructions in the manual:

Hope that makes things a little easier.

I’ve tried that and it really doesn’t help much for me. Once you go HTS and want to go back to TDC you still have to press the MFD button to get TDC underlined again.

I agree with the OP. This is definitely a different animal unlike the A10C with having most inputs on the MFDs and UFC. A10 is more HOTAS which makes the workload more manageable. Even the displays are changed by HOTAS on A10. Imagine if you could do that on the AV8?

Yup, while working things out in the harrier is challenging, if you set the autopilot (maybe even set up an orbit? I haven't tried this yet as I mostly just use the ARBS tbh) and then focus on target designation on the screen. Once you have everything dialed in take over, do your run, then return to orbit.

Really though, what is best is if you either have someone buddy lase for you or have jtac lasing, because then you can just focus on acquiring the target, dropping your GBUs, then focusing on the next target. If you run a mission with multiple harriers in your flight you can even take turns designating targets.

This is all super easy with JTAC though and is actually highly realistic, its not unreasonable to assume there is some sort of JTAC support on the ground during CAS operations

This is a bug. You should be able to go back to TDC underlined using hotas only.
