falcon_120 Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Once out of EA we should have this cappability in the hornet. However i could not find a lot of information on the precise features that this will bring. Perhaps any of you with more knowledge could shed some light of the main features: - The system allows sharing of information coming from AWACS and the position of other friendly forces right? Does this include sharing radar contacts from other hornets? Or only from the AWACS? Will we be able to transmit air or ground targets similar to the way the A10C can share a SPI? Thanks!
Oceandar Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Thank you for posting this. I have the same curiosity. One thing I remember from the old Jane's FA-18 is contacts would display on silent radar and you can shoot AIM-120 on it without even need to turn the radar on. Awesome isnt it? Although i'm pretty sure this functionality is not possible IRL. In any case, just having radar contacts from friendly aircraft displayed would be a game changer and even quite OP for multiplayer. I just hope we get whatever is closer to the real thing.
Oceandar Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 (edited) I'm not an expert on this matter but I guess its possible just not from AWACS but from the other flight members. If my memory serves me right, I remember reading F-16 from RNAF shot down Serbian MiG with Amraam during Balkan Opt using Datalink from other F-16 while its own radar was off. I'm not sure if this accurate thou.... Edit : found the link https://planken.org/balkans/allied-force/operations-day-day/dutch-mig-kill Edited June 15, 2018 by Oceandar Mastering others is strength. falcon_120 Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 I've seen your link but you got it wrong, it states that the shooter locked the bandit using its own radar. Again F16 dont have this cappability of staying silent while shooting a amraam guided from another plane. In fact Aim120C from that year didnt have this 2 way datalink features either. This is a new cappability that only 4.5 generation fighters are implementing recently. Enviado desde mi SM-G950F mediante Tapatalk

I suspect the Typhoon to feature it too, but I don’t know for current 4th Gen US fighters ? Mirage fanatic ! Pikey Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Back to the Link16 though, my question is, if ED will model Link16 so that it assumes all the same coalition are on the same network and it is perfectly configured. There's a checkbox next to ELPRS and if you are in the A-10C and if you see an AI F-16, he will broadcast his SPI as if SADL net was the same, so I'm assuming the baseline Link16 is done by the ME coalition side and capable Link 16 participants, but I would like to see how they approach it, especially what level of detail and accuracy Link16 gives us. The obvious design would be a checkbox for Link16 (so that you can opt out for reasons of mission design) But also perhaps a Network ID number or whatever L16 uses in the ME along side a checkbox? No reason to simulate the actual encrypted network, just make it seamless? ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
