Tuna-Salad Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 Standby ADI does not match HUD or will stay tumbled after aerobatic maneuvers.
Eldur Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Doesn't even need maneuvers, just time alone is enough. Always wondered about the use of a SAI gauge that's off by ~30° after like 10 minutes back in the days when the Ka-50 module was new and went over to just keep it caged anyway Apparently it has to be realigned every few minutes just for the single moment in like 10k hours of flight you'd actually have to rely on it due to it's utterly massive gyro drift
Flamin_Squirrel Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Unless there's something unusual about the Hornet SAI, it won't drift (directional gyros do this). It can be disturbed though: it's a simple device to be used as a last ditch reference in IFR, it's not designed to remain level during hard manoeuvring. Simple ADIs will generally align themselves with gravity over time if you leave them (or recage them).
