Tropikal Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I hope someone could give me some pointers on this one.. The problem is that every time i try to record an avi file from a track the game crashes instantly (as soon as i press the "Record AVI" button) I asked around and i was told it could be a problem with conflicting codecs but i uninstalled Divx and that didnt change anything.. Any hints would be really appreciated Thanx
Andrew_McP Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 If you search through these forums (might take a while to find the right combination of search words) you'll find this discussed many times. I don't think anyone has ever come up with a definite answer to the problems with the AVI recorder. It just seems to hate some PCs. :-) Good luck finding a solution. Andrew McP http://forum.lockon.ru/search.php?searchid=284568 seems to throw up a few useful threads.
Tropikal Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 Thanx for the reply Andrew, though the link u posted doesnt actually work i ll do some research to see if i can come up with some useful posts.. anyhow thanx for letting me know it s a known issue.. i appreciated that.
Scart Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 The problem is usually in codecs conflict, but we don't know what particular codecs you have, so the only advice is: uninstall all the codecs completely and reinstall the only you really need for. P.S. I don't remember that LO have any conflicts with DivX or XviD codecs. surely it has conflicts with hufview loseless codec. so check them fully in device manager [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] летаю на заказ, дорого... Tropikal Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 Problem is i dont have a clue what i should or should not uninstall and what i can or cannot uninstall.. So here s a list of video and audio codecs i got.. feel free to point out what should or should not be in there.. Also i wonder if re-installing the game might help.. if someone has tried that with success i d really like to know. Thank u
Design Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Do you have Sony Vegas installed? It was the cause of my problems time ago... Carlos "Design" Pastor AMD64x2 5200+, 4GB DDR2, Asus M2V, Nvidia Geforce GTX260, Win7 x64
Scart Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I don't have CineForm HD VFW Codec in video, and Messenger Audio Codec, lhacm.acm in audio. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] летаю на заказ, дорого... Tropikal Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 Do you have Sony Vegas installed? It was the cause of my problems time ago... Yes i just installed it .. i dont recall if it was before or after the first time i tried to run the AVI tool but i think it was like this even before to install vegas.. i can try to uninstall it for a few but that probably isnt the problem for me.
Andrew_McP Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 though the link u posted doesnt actually work Ah, sorry. I did check it and it worked then, but not know. Strange. Anyway, all I did was search for "avi recorder problem" and it throw up a few interesting threads. Andrew McP
porky Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 OK mate, I remember having this problem for a while too. The problem is the Cineform codec, you've gotta remove it but unfortunately it won't remove itself from the Device Manager however many times you click remove. To do so, follow these steps: 1) I would make a system restore point first. You never know. 2) Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete cfhd.dll. 3) Hit Windows+R or go Start>Run and type in regedit, hit enter. 4) In regedit search for cineform and delete everything you come across. It would be wise to make a backup of your registry first lol. 5) Now search for cfhd and delete everything you come across. Restart. 6) I would compress and optimise the registry, then restart again, but that's up to you. 7) Anyway...go to Device Manager>Video codecs again and check if Cineform is there. It shouldn't be. If it is try removing it, if it just comes back again try restoring and doing all the steps again. If that doesn't work than sorry mate, I've been of no use. But if it isn't you should be good to go. Fire up LO and try and record a track of a few secs with numbered screenies. You can join them together by dragging the first one into VirtualDub later on. 8) If all's gooood, then your screenies should be in C:\bla bla\LO dir\Movies Hope that helps you and good luck, this problem can be a real pain :) Edit: Meh random smilies screwed up step 8  1

I ll let you know how it turns out once i get around to do that. At least now i know what the problem is. Thanx a bunch (even if it doesnt turn out to solve the prob) at least I got something to try now. ;)
Tropikal Posted May 5, 2007 Author Posted May 5, 2007 Well, you would be glad to know that removing the Cine codec actually DID solve the problem. I hope this helps some other poor sob that like me had this issue. Now I am actually able to go in the edit window and select the codec I want to record with and everything else. At this point though the issue I am facing is that once I set my settings and start the actual recording it only does record when I select the uncompressed option, any other codec doesn't produce any output. If i select any codec the recording of the video is skipped completely and the program goes streight into audio recording. ..Yes one problem after the other.. isnt that great ?!.. Anyway porky's rep +1 in my book ;)
Tropikal Posted May 6, 2007 Author Posted May 6, 2007 I was thinking someone could take porky's reply and make it a sticky somewhere so this fix doesnt get lost in space.. Thanx again porky!
