mdee Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Hi, Can you please recommend a good quality powered 7-8 port USB 3.0 hub? Would be great if it had master switch to disable all devices connected at once. I am in the EU btw. Thanks a lot!
cordite Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Anker seems to get good reviews. Just pulled the trigger on one yesterday.
aniron Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 (edited) After frying the main board of my Warthog throttle, I bought an Exsys "industrial-grade" 7-port USB 2.0 hub for my flight peripherals. It makes me rest a bit easier knowing the lack of protective circuits on the 'hog throttle. I got it for some 400 SEK from ELFA/Distrelec online. Ex-1178 There's an USB 3.0 version as well, which costs a fair bit more. Ex-1189HMVS I'd probably upgrade to that should I ever have the need, but the vast majority of my devices are 2.0 anyway. hansangb Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I have the USB 2 version of this guy of the Sabrent hubs. But HB-BUP7 or HB-BU10 seems to fit the bill. I'm very happy with the USB 2 version. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Johnny Dioxin Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 (edited) I bought two a while back, but the e-shop I bought them from doesn't have them any more. I'll try and find the make and details - it's not a well known make but mine have been great. 7 ports with on/off switches with LEDs and a charging slot that continues working with the PC off. edit: looks like they have been superceded by a new model - but they are Targus make: https://www.targus.com/uk/7port-usb-desktop-hub-ach115eu That is similar to the ones I have, but not the same. Another one I've used for years and is pretty darned good - same spec as other one, is Tendak: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tendak-Transfer-Charging-Separated-Multifunctional-Black/dp/B00VK9PRIU I've seen some negative reviews on this, but I've had zero issues and the one time I asked their support something I got a quick and professional response (and immediate offer of a new one if I wasn't happy). Look at the review ratio to see how impressed the majority are. Here's the US one (which you can order via Amazon global): https://www.amazon.com/Tendak-Charging-Adapter-Individual-Switches/dp/B00VK9PRIU Edited July 28, 2018 by Brixmis Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

Ranma13 Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 I would recommend that you look into getting a USB 2.0 hub if you're only looking to plug flight controls into it. USB 3.0 is intended for really high data transfer speeds, like a hard drive transferring hundreds of megabytes. For joysticks and flight controls, it's overkill, and the computer needs to allocate more resources than it would need to if they were 2.0 ports. Some motherboards may also not be able support an additional 8 USB 3.0 ports, but can do that many 2.0 ports no problem. Lastly, the USB 2.0 hubs are usually half the price of the USB 3.0 ones for the same number of ports. I would also recommend that you get a 10-port hub or more. You never know when you might get additional controls and need more. With pedals, a throttle, a joystick, and 2 MFDs, that already uses 5 ports.
Johnny Dioxin Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 (edited) It's well known that some HOTAS controllers work significantly better plugged into powered USB 3 hubs than USB 2 (and unpowered), so this is not necessarily the case. For this reason I have my HOTAS (X56) and pedals plugged into a powered USB 3 hub and my MFDs and home made panels plugged into a USB 2. Both are powered 7 port hubs. Goblin Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 I have an IcyBox USB3 powered hub, and it works great!
