Running DCS 2.5 OB Without VR

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!

I've been trying to get DCS 2.5 OB to run without my VR set and I can't seem to figure it out.

I've tried the "(everything first)\dcs.exe" --force_disable_VR.

I've tried the batch file/.lua script editing.

I've tried the GUI repair thing made by SZS.

Absolutely no luck with the batch/lua edit.

The other two methods both bring up a window that has the DCS/ED logos but won't go into the menu. The window is also only about 1000x700 px.

I've also tried going into the game and unchecking the 'Use VR' option... When it restarts, it does the same thing as the two options that had some luck, but then I have to completely uninstall the game and reinstall it to re-enable VR as I can't see anything on the game screen except the logos...

Does anyone know how to fix this and run without VR? I've also tried uninstalling my Oculus software...

Cheers!

So Oculus tray tool does make the game start with VR disabled, but it's still just giving me the Eagle Dynamics logos on a tiny window same as the other two methods that worked for me... Also, I'm getting a Steam notification too saying that Steam VR is not ready (I'm not using DCS Steam edition...)

I feel like it's maybe compiling shaders and you aren't waiting long enough. Give it literally 20 minutes.

Nvidia RTX3080 (HP Reverb), AMD 3800x

Asus Prime X570P, 64GB G-Skill RipJaw 3600

Saitek X-65F and Fanatec Club-Sport Pedals (Using VJoy and Gremlin to remap Throttle and Clutch into a Rudder axis)

I don’t think that’s the issue - everything starts up in literally 10 seconds when I’m running VR and it was pretty much instant before I first enabled VR.

I’m doing a completely clean installation right now - scoured my entire computer for anything involving DCS and got rid of all of it. I think I may have missed the settings in ‘Saved Games’ in my first reinstall...

I’ll post an update once this finishes...

No need to reinstall anything. I've not fully downloaded DCS in about 4 years. You can move DCS folder around to anywhere and back it up on an external drive. I have taken a copy of the stable and paste it to C:/--- and updated that copy to beta. The only time I had a problem and needed to delete the save games folder, well I just rename it as to keep my controllers so I could copy them back.

Just run the clean and repair or rename save games as a last resort etc. Example here

i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro

So, clean installation complete - start DCS and it runs automatically in VR mode...

So - managed to fix the issue with unclickable menu parts in VR and turned VR off through the actual game... Now I'll wait a while.

Is it normal to hear the music while the game loads? I hear the music... (wish I could turn it off right now haha!)

Now try this for the icon. I created a second icon that has this so I can run it either way.

\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_disable_VR

Nvidia RTX3080 (HP Reverb), AMD 3800x

Asus Prime X570P, 64GB G-Skill RipJaw 3600

Saitek X-65F and Fanatec Club-Sport Pedals (Using VJoy and Gremlin to remap Throttle and Clutch into a Rudder axis)

No need for all this stuff, just use Skatezilla’s very useful utility. Does all that stuff with 1 click.

Guys,

I've done the --force_disable_VR (yes, I put the space between the directory and the command) AND Skatezilla's thing (that's what I was calling SZS). Neither one of those worked (as per my OP).

So, you’ve run Skatezilla’s app, selected the build you want to use, clicked on VR off, and you still have the problem?

Yup - even after a complete re-install. I don't know what's up with it and at this point I'm trying to find a fix just in case anyone else has the issue - I've got DCS on another computer without VR so it's not too big a deal for me but it is annoying to have to pass mission files between computers.

I know this sounds a bit low tech compared to all the stuff you have been discussing but on the rare occasions I want to run DCS without using Oculus I just unplug it before I turn on my PC, load DCS and it starts in flat mode. You have probably tried this but I thought I might as well suggest it.

Have you tried unchecking the enable VR headset in the VR options tab? That usually does it for me.

He said in his first post that he’s already tried that.

Weird one.

haha wrong quote - sorry! Meant to quote the guy saying the low tech option.

Going to try this now... I've tried unchecking the VR box in-game, then restarting with the VR set unplugged, but maybe if I leave my in-game settings alone and unplug + restart it'll work...

This works! Key is to not disable VR in the game settings - just unplug everything VR (headset + sensors) prior to restarting the PC then start everything up and it's working in flat mode! Thanks!
