Gavski1 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 I want to switch to ssd, is it better to also have your OS (win10) on the ssd as well, does it make ant difference? Rudel_chw Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Probably it wont make DCS work any faster, but your Windows for sure will boot faster and feel overall snappier ... go for it if you have enough space on the SSD. Pilotasso Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 No only it loads things faster but it stops FPS dips due to stuttering and that is a huge advantage. .
etherbattx Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 DCS on ssd everything on ssd if you can afford it. if not, at least put your OS and swap file (default windows installation)
BuzzU Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Would having two SSD's and putting DCS on one and the OS on the other one be faster than both on one? I have them both on one SSD right now. Buzz
Rudel_chw Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Would having two SSD's and putting DCS on one and the OS on the other one be faster than both on one? I used to have both Windows and DCS on a single 256 GB ssd drive, but when I purchased the Persian Gulf Map I was forced to move DCS onto another 256 GB SSD drive, so I ended up with Windows on C: and DCS on L: drive I didnt notice a performance difference on this two drive setup .. its neither faster nor slower than the single drive. Gavski1 Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 Will have to reinstall dcs or can it the directory be moved? FC3, F86 Sabre, Mig 21Bis, A10C, C-101, AJS-37 Viggen, F/A18-C Hornet, UH1-H Huey, AV8-N/A Harrier, Mirage 2000c, Spitfire MKix, Me BF109 K-4, Tornado GR4 (one day).

Rudel_chw Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Will have to reinstall dcs or can it the directory be moved? You can move the DCS program file folder to wherever you want, without needing to reinstall o deactivate/reactivate modules. But you will need to update the shortcuts manually. etherbattx Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 DCS on ssd Would having two SSD's and putting DCS on one and the OS on the other one be faster than both on one? theoretically, because there would be less contention on the single ssd and some requests could be done in parallel. but in real life? no, you’ll never notice an difference in speed with ssd. i wouldn’t bother with it. it’s not worth the trouble.
Elliottc26 Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 If moving from HDD to SSD, you can clone your HDD onto your SSD and avoid having to reinstall everything.
