Guys, I've found one very strange thing... normally I set LockOn.exe to run on core1 (second core) and comms, trackIR etc on core0 (first core) and I used to do this with Procaff.exe utility.

Now that I have a touch screen in order to test my CPU temperatures (and some other stuff) I let Windows Task Manager and CoreTemp to show on touch screen so I can see the values while I play LockOn.

I have found that while I start LockOn.exe it will normally start all on core1 and utilize all of (and only) second core. Strangely, when the game is actually in 3D I can see both cores running about 50/60%??? LockOn is NOT running on 1 core only???

Can anyone (who has a second monitor) try this out and confirm?

1. open Windows Task Manager and place it on second monitor and open the Performance tab (so you can see CPU/Memory utilization)

2. fire up LockOn

3. look for CPU utilization while LockOn is loading / in game menu / loading a mission / running a mission

Can you confirm that LockOn s actually running on both cores while in 3D?

IF LOmac is running on one core and the graphics on the other, thats awsome (parhapes just data being fed from the CPU to the GPU, not the game itself). Imagine what I will be able to do with a QUAD.

Well I don't know which one is running on which... maybe you're right and LockOn.exe is running on second core as I specified and 3D part of it (directX and video card drivers etc) run on core 1.

Either way... I see both cores utilized about the same. I wonder then why second core is never 100% utilized???? When LockOn is loading and in game menu it's showing only second core being utilized completely however, as soon as 3D is loaded (you see the "Press "S" to start mission" line) it switches to both cores???

I've never tried Procaff or any other utility. I use simple command line. This command will launch LockOn.exe on second core at high process priority.

start /affinity 2 /high LockOn.exe

Try that command... either in command prompt or batch file and see if you're experiencing same problem.

"/affinity 1" will launch it on first core. You can also use "/abovenormal", or any of the process priority instead of "/high".

Thanks Ven, I'll try that out as well although I doubt I'll see any difference.

Its not realy a "problem" lol. If its split across 2 CPU's it will perform much better than on just one, unless you plan to run another heavy aplication on the other core.

Allochton, I use Intel's Core 2 Duo

Pilottaso, I don't think a game using both cores is bad or a problem... what I do find strange is that if I specify for LockOn.exe to run on Core1 then I'd expect it to utilize this core to the max... but it doesn't. Instead it's still using rougly 50% of the whole CPU but not 100% for 1 core but about 50% from both. The whole point in making LockOn run on 1 core is so it has dedicated core to run on... and this obviouly isn't the case, at least not from what Windows Task Manager is showing.

Cool thing bout Vista is that I have a gadget that tells me whats using how much on both cpu's and ram, and it doesnt like me setting lomac on core 1, but core 0 works fine...and it uses every single ghz in that operation while the other core runs everything else. Ive done this on both my current laptop and my other laptop, which is an AM2 Turion X2.

Did anyone mention you have to set this thing manually during the game? I really need to get a profiler for the affinity process...
