Hi,

 

HUD is caged, what is this symbol?

Is it the real speed vector position?

I can't find it in the manual.

Yes.

When the HUD is caged, the "usual" velocity vector doesn't point in the right direction. Thus, a ghost VV is needed to indicate the correct direction.

ghost velocity vector when HUD is caged is important for runway landing so you land ON the runway. HUD is influenced by crosswinds and the Ghost velocity vector corrects for that. It is not needed when is no cross or shearing winds upon aircraft.
