So, I'm fairly new to DCS so I'm probably doing something dumb, but I noticed last night while flying that under the fuselage there are two square pieces hanging off the bottom of my F-5. Happens every time I fly. Are these speed brakes or something I'm engaging without knowing?

Yes they are speed brake ... they are activated by default when you start from a cold start. You need to to switch them off! You are flying highly restricted right now ;) I think the Key is B to toggle them on/off.

I know, I use to commonly forget about those!!!

Hi, if you are new to the F-5, may I suggest these two excellent videos, by Mr Wagner himself :)
