Wrench Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 I'm thinking about getting the harrier during the sale, and was hoping you guys could clue me in on where it stands. I know a lot of systems weren't modeled in EA, so I'm curious as to what's still left undone, and how the progress has been going. Carrier Script.
Shadow_1stVFW Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 (edited) I'm thinking about getting the harrier during the sale, and was hoping you guys could clue me in on where it stands. I know a lot of systems weren't modeled in EA, so I'm curious as to what's still left undone, and how the progress has been going. Everything major is present. The Core systems (DMT, FLIR, AG targeting) are all present. The TPOD suffers an issue where it will not slave to the INS target point, but the TPOD will slave the INS to it's target point. So once you start using it, the jet will target what it's looking at, but you'll have to manually slew the pod to that location. The bomb release interval is working in the development version and should be hitting the beta soon. INS is working now. Every weapon modeled works great. There are questions on if GBUs or Laser guided rockets are coming, but no word on that. It's flight model is very nice. There is a current bug where the sidearm and sidewinder volume drops after a bit, that's new. Overall it's fun, I fly it mostly. Razbam announce last week they hired a new coder who is working solely on the Harrier and Decoy has been checking into the bugs. Hope that answers what you're looking for. As previously stated yes and no to most of the major systems are there. They are far from done. Most of the systems that are modeled or put into place, never see fruition. For example for the last 4 major advancements and additions, they are never finished nor revisited. The AB/AAQ-28 Targeting pod has not seen any attention since the beginning of the year. There are still LOTS of features for this pod that are not working correctly, or simply not implemented. Same with the INS. It works, however not correctly as it should on startup and there are workarounds that you have to accomplish to get it to work correctly or align for first flight. You still cannot store Targeting points as well as other issues. The MFCD's have about half of the working pages as they should. Some of them that do work do not work correctly nor are completed. VREST, COM, MAINT, INS, SAAHS pages etc. The UFC honestly has much to go. TMR functions were added, but never finished. Advanced features like TTT, TOT etc do not work and have not been addressed. WPN, AWL,EMCON,BCN TOO, WOF and other advanced features not working. Countermeasure programs and advanced settings for the countermeasure systems not implemented. For the bugs yes some are being addressed, but some stagnate and are larger than others. Correct HUD symbology for the ABRS on CCIP, Sidearm bugs, Target Ranges on LMAV superimposed over other distances etc. Of course its early accesss however after 12 months of this project being out I would like you to be informed. Yes it works but there is lots to still be completed with this module. Unless Razbam is going to just accept a module without many of these advanced features never added. They never really have stated. Wrench please read some more from the forum posts and bug reports from June - October as most of the issues are still present. So your making an informed decision. Yes its fun at times to fly but still frustrating its not gotten more attention. Enjoy Putting the Gear down at +450 kts without any damage model to the gear :)

tea_cypher Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I have been flying the harrier for 5 months now, only one bug really spoils my game, and they are working on it (specifically tpod point track when cold start), Yes there are features missing, do i miss them no, Some people say bombing dosent work, yet i seem to shack targets left right and centre. The question is what kind of person are you? I am here to play a game and have fun, for me the harrier ticks that box. If you are more interested in a real life simulation, you would probably be better sitting on the tarmac waiting for an a10c to alighn, what ever floats your boat as the phrase goes. The choice is yours, and I am happy with mine.
MrDieing Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 Be careful who you listen to and what you read on the forums. This works both ways obviously. Wrench, I dont think you realize what can of worms you just opened here; there is quite a few haters roaming the RAZBAM forums, looking to point out all the items missing or wrong according to them in every single thread. Im not saying that he is not right; what he is pointing out is indeed missing or not working. But it looks like a massive list, like an alpha module, whilest in reality its not that big of a deal, unless you are throwing the 'owe' argument ofcourse. I'll try and give a bit of a neutral opinion; all the major systems are in place, and you are able to execute any mission in good fashion, with a little work around sometimes. The systems could use more fleshing out, but RAZBAM said that they will finish the Harrier this year. This being DCS and the amount of news we heard lately, I would probably expect it to be somewhere 2019, delays happen a lot in DCS. Is it a good investment on sale? Yes, especially with the finishing of the module being within under a year. Don't let all the haters get to you. Konovalov Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 My suggestion would be to look at some You Tube vids by people such as Spudknocker and you will find there is plenty to enjoy with this aircraft while it not being in final release build. Each to their own. If it looks like it is something you will enjoy then go for it. Shadow_1stVFW Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I'll put it this way, with the exception of landing a hey in a Nimitz class aircraft carrier, there is nothing in the Hornet I wouldn't rather do in the Harrier. For in sale, if say worth it. Budabacon Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 I have it, and i also bought it on sale. Love every minute of it, there are some bugs, but all planes have them and this one was them too (none of them will prevent you from completing any mission or task put upon you). For mr the most annoying bug is the Sidearm not firing, but i think its being fixed. My opinion get while its cheaper, youll have a blast landing and taking off vertically, and giving some freedom to targets from above.
Wrench Posted November 22, 2018 Author Posted November 22, 2018 Thanks, guys. Sounds like it's mostly there. Anyway, at $35 I thought I can't go wrong so I got it. Even if I don't end up flying it much it's no big deal. Kinda neat to hover a plane. I've spent about 20 minutes with her so far, and it was surprisingly easy to hover. I was afraid I'd be slipping all over and crashing a lot, but I guess all that practice in the Huey (since release) paid off. The small group I fly with actually has a brevity code for "Everything is done except INS align" BTW. Carrier Script.
