I did some tests with AGM-65D and G attacking tankers type Elnya.

In terms of targeting there is no difference between the two. Both make it very hard to spot the ships on the DDI even with contrast turned up. And then it takes several attempts before the seeker locks the target.

Once launched from a lock, both missile types hit the target every time. The AGM-65G produces a big blast with fire and lots of black smoke, and sometimes destroys the ship with a single hit. Most of the time it took two hits to sink the ship.

The AGM-65D produces a far less impressive blast with no fire and no black smoke, and after a few seconds there is no smoke any more. I have not been able to sink a ship with the AGM-65D at all. The 57 kg shaped-charge warhead is probably not suitable for engaging ships.

The funny thing is though, that the DDI screen for the "D" has a PB option for "Ship" which doesn't do anything right now. If the "D" is not suitable for ships, why do we have that option?

The DDI screen for the "G" does not show the "Ship" option although that missile is very effective against ships.

Edit:

I tried to set up a mission for the "E" model using the Predator as AFAC. Gave up, because the dropdown for assigning a group did not list the ships.

I believe the F will have the "ship" option and has a seeker better tuned for attacking ships (thought I read that it hits closer to the water line perhaps?)
