I wasn't initially planning on owning the Su-27, since I have the 33 and I figured why fly the same thing with 2 fewer missiles? But it's a cool family of planes to collect, it was cheap on sale and I figured it would give me more campaign variety and also spawn flexibility in MP.

Anyway, I do own both now and only took the 27 for a quick free flight (copy-paste control scheme, nothing to learn really). It felt very nimble. Not that the 33 doesn't, but I thought the 27 was just that little bit more responsive.

So I'm curious, do they actually use different FMs that account for their different weights and how the canards affect handling? Or are their FMs copy-paste?

They are unique. Su-33 has more weight and drag, I believe that while canards give you forgiving handling it does bleed speed faster than the flanker b not to mention that without canards the su-33 has more wing area because of increased area LEF(leading edge flaps) and TEF(trailing edge flaps) area. The Su-33 also had more powerful engines to compensate for the weight increase but still has less thrust to weight ratio than Su-27. I believe Su-27 may also have better top end speed from low drag, but that’s just my assumption. The PFMs were worked on completely separately released years apart as well.

You may get two more R-27ERs but you also get half the countermeasures;)

I was wondering about that as well, since all Su-27 guides say the aircraft more or less self-recovers from a Cobra, but I found that to not be true in the 33. It's very lazy and needs to be manually pushed back to level flight, with huge speed loss. Will watch out for that with the 27.

Interesting matter.

Since the MiG-29 PFM came out, I've been experimenting BFM against several AI aircraft.

And my first impressions I got the feeling that the Su-33 was somewhat harder to defeat than the Su-27...

Don't know exactly why, must try it again with more attention, but it seemed to maneuver better.

The two are very different. The easiest way to see that is to try guns only dogfight vs a pair of "Excellent" AI F-16C. A doddle in the Su-27, not so much in Su-33 :)

Yea, I tend to notice that the Su-27 flight model is much better in terms of high end acceleration and low end turning performance. This is due to the lighter weight and the better thrust-weight ratio. I much prefer the Su-27 over the 33 even if you are able to carry 2 more missiles, just purely on the flight performance. Carrying 6 R-27ERs and 4 R-73s is completely fine for me.

Anyway the su27 has not been improved since so long and underpowered in the sim , what a pity. Cross finger To the future and also for an su27 sm3 for exemple

How is it underpowered? Do you have any comparison to the real aircraft's charts to show this?

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
