J13 Serenity Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 Hi Can anyone tell me how to adjust focus in VR when using NVG? Outside world and the HUD is fine, but cockpit is unreadable. Also - First time I tried sidearms - they locked on OSA and fired perfectly. But next day I tried - they lock but refuse to launch. Why? Thanks
sirrah Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 Answer to your first question: I don't think you actually can adjust nvg focus in dcs. In real life it is possible, but is never done by pilots, as they want to be able to see in the distance rather than see cockpit instruments (can't focus on both). I suggest you bind the nvg toggle to a switch on your hotas. As for the other question: SA might very well still be bugged, I also encountered various strange behavior. Harlikwin Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 In the real world with the ANVIS you can focus one side for close and one side for infinity focus, but its prohibited for air ops IIRC, both need to be set for infinity so you can see wtf you are doing. If you need to look into the pit, you look "under" them (just tilt your head up and glance down). Not sure how that can be implemented in DCS. Simplest thing would be to just have everything in focus. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Harlikwin Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Actually a hot view would work too now that i think about it. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. WindyTX Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 With NVG's on we just used to look below them to read the radar and the instruments as the HUD was focused at infinity soit always looked good. Unfortunately the NVG view in VR is too big so they can't be used correctly. It has been reported multiple times but that is why you are having a problem. Focus one at infinity and one at 2 feet. The one at two will allow you to read things, but it's harder for actual CQ combat. I actually don't the monocle for open field combat ops. I can see things sometimes with the non-NVG eye that the NVG doesn't illuminate. That said, I prefer the thermal/NVG combined goggles, but they are hard to get my hands on.

Yeah its a very very old trick. But not applicable to aviators IIRC their regs demand both set at infinity so they have depth perception. I think the current way its implemented in the harrier is OK, be nice to have a look under nvg button, that gave you 1/3 of the screen to look under. Yeah, I reset my space bar to the helmet device for easy access to turn them on and off as I need. Though maybe just a false screen with focus on everything might be a little easier to work with, this works for now. Harlikwin Posted December 8, 2018 Posted December 8, 2018 Thats probably not the worst workaround. IRL the anvis mounts arent ultra easy to flip up. Gotta push a button and move em, then readjust when flipping down etc. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. I wouldn't be shocked to find a regulation on how to poop. Heck, I've found regulations that contradict other regulations. That is fun, seems the leadership always picks to follow the one that does NOT benefit you.
Harry.R Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 On the Gr7 our NVG were focused to infinity. Pilots would adjust their IPD (distance between pupils) and set objective focus on a test box to their prescription prior to flight. As Windy said, they would 'look under' the goggles if they needed to see any instruments, or use the tilt bracket.
