Hi!

I stopped playing DCS because I sold my Oculus Rift and once you have played with a VR headset you can never go back. My main problem with the Rift was the low resolution or the low PPI. The instruments in the cockpit were readable but when I looked out of the window everything was very muddy and unsharp. Distant objects were extremely blurry. No matter which settings I used. That annoyed me extremely and I decided to sell the Rift and wait for the next generation of VR.

So now the Pimax 5k+ is on my radar, but before buying it, I want to know if the problems I mentioned above are solved by the higher resolution/ppi.

Do I need lighthouse cubes for seated gaming, or are the internal sensors of the Pimax sufficiant enough?

Current Hardware:

i5 6700k (maybe upgrade)

GTX 1080TI

32GB RAM

I9 9900K @ 5Ghz | MSI Z390 Gaming Carbon Pro | KFA2 GTX 1080 Ti | 64 GB Kingston HyperX 2666Mhz | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 250GB SSD | Pimax 5K+ | Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind | Wheelstand Pro Flight

If you want 6 DOF you need atleast one lighthouse cube. To set up with just one cube you need to have it ca 2m in front of you initially and then it can be closer. Search on reddit for one lighthouse setup with vive.

Thank you! Not sure about the delivery time of the Pimax if I order it today. Maybe it's a good idea to wait for the Lighthouse 2.0 system.

No one knows how long. Minimum 4 months.

Point is they promise Backers will be delivered before Christmas but today 3000 of 5000 backers didn't get their HMD. Only after coming those who preeorder it but in reality this could be minimum 4 months before you get your order.

It appears those issues and others such as God rays have been solved with the Pimax. You can a big increase in FOV too. Downside is performance...your going to need to lower your settings a lot to get comparable performance. Hopefully optimisations from ED (VR improvements and vulcan) and Pimax can help out here in the future.

Exciting times though!

I'll give it a try. My main problem was the low resolution of the Rift. Pimax will deliver an eye tracker in the future. So it should be possible to reduce the required hardware power.
