Infiltrator Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I purchased a Mixed-Reality HMD last year but returned it because being my first VR experience I had high expectations, so when I fired up DCS I was very disappointed with the screendoor affect and lack of clarity when looking at the instruments. Given the Mixed-Reality HMD's have a high resolution than the Rift and Vive I saw little point with trying those headsets. Now we have the imminent launch of Pimax's 5 and 8K HMD's I wondering whether of not I should purchase one. Given I've only got a GTX 1080 I might be tempted for the 5K as I heard there's little difference with the 8K. Will Pimax's new VR HMD's revolutionize the VR gaming industry with its high resolution? Will it render the Mixed-Reality, Vive and Rift redundant due to their inferior resolution? The bigger question being is now the opportunity to finally purchase a VR HMD now we have this higher resolution? hansangb Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Read the review posted by RAGE. I think you'll get a feel for it. Also, if you're looking for the 4K 2D experience in visual quality, Pimax won't deliver that. So if it's eye candy you're after, I wouldn't bother with VR for another two/three years. But Rage didn't like Rift(?) but decided to keep Pimax 5K+ so do give his review a read. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
SmokeFan Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Eye candy, don't do vr. I got sold on the pimax 4k but quickly put it in my closet due to no head tracking. Wasn't really 4k either and buggy as he'll. I just got the Samsung oddesey + and I love it. Very little to no see. But I have a 4k monitor, so I switch back and forth. Stay away from pimax, only my opinion though.
Headwarp Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 the odyssey+ has new anti screen door effect screens.. might be worth a shot. I almost wish I had waited to buy my Odyssey, as the odyssey+ has had sale prices for less than what I paid for my odyssey recently lol. I don't know how clear it will be vs other headsets but if it improves the picture at all I wish I had another $400 laying around. Gladman Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 The Odyssey plus isn't perfect but no screen door is a significant step forward. When we could go above 1.6 PD I had mine set at 2.0 and man, it was a huge difference. Hopefully the software gods figure out the details and fix that issue. Bottom line, the O+ is worth the purchase. I have Pimax 5K+ coming but this thing is a great interim. i9 9900K @ 5.1Ghz - ASUS Maximus Hero XI - 32GB 4266 DDR4 RAM - ASUS RTX 2080Ti - 1 TB NVME - NZXT Kraken 62 Watercooling System - Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas (Virpil Base) - MFG Crosswind Pedals - Pimax 5K+ VFA-25 Fist Of The Fleet [sigpic]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic99190_2.gif[/sigpic] Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 | Discord
