71st_Mastiff Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 lol... im running out of fuel... any ideas? Either out of Mavs, or not slaved to the TPOD anymore? Sometimes you have to reset the Tpod. DmitriKozlowsky Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 (edited) TPOD must be made Sensor Of Interest by pressing the TDC button on right CMFD. When you have TPOD loaded, either on centerline, or inner starboard wing pylon, TPOD will be on the Right MFCD. On MFCD, press MENU then TPOD. TPOD camera view will appear with two options on right side of right MFCD. STBY (standby mode) and above TDC. Select both. Now you can slew the TPOD marker. TPOD is auto-stabilized. The DMT should be turned OFF, if you have POD. Especially at night. If DMT system is turned ON, put it into LST mode. If DMT is left in TV mode, and TPOD is your SOI, if you designate a target, the system will automatically place TPOD into STBY mode and switch to DMT TV tracker. This is why I recommend that DMT be turned OFF or in LST mode, when TPOD is carried. LST is Laser Spot Tracker. Harrier's own version of A-10's Pave Penny spot tracker. With DMT in LST mode (these acronyms are killing me) and TPOD as SOI, TPOD also controls seeker of IRMV AGM-65G when it is UNCAGED. To decouple IRMV seeker, from TPOD, press SENSOR FWD to make AGM-65G aka IRMV seeker your new Sensor Of Interest. The designator on HUD will be large box with crosshair. IRMV seeker view is always on port (left) MFCD. Press FOV to zoom IRMV, the IRMV box on HUD will be smaller. THe box on HUD is what IRMV is looking at. IRMV will automatically lock and track a high contrast hot/cold region. If it is not the impact point you want, just slew it, do not undesignate. System will let you slew the seeker . IRMV AGM-65G has long range in AV-8B. You have plenty of time. Glide the designator box over high contrast point on target, once you get solid crosshairs that are strobing fast, that means IRMV is tracking target point independent of aircraft, and can be released. Obviously DO NOT FORGET weapon fuzing options. Set to AGM, set to IN (Impact Nose), DL1 (fuze delay) for naval targets, DL2 (fuze delay2) for hardened bunker type targets. You just have to practice. TPOD and AGM-65 is a thinking man's weapon. Planning is needed. Following procedure is required. So easy to become target fixated and loose SA. IMHO DCS: AV-8B/NA AI aviators, especially wingmen, are dotard retards. I don't know if its ED or RAZBAM. Arm wingman with Sidewinders, cannon, and DECM. Have him cover you , Communications/Wingman1/Cover Me command. While you concentrate on processing the target. Unless you are delivering LGB or AGM-65E, or you are the lazing buddy , leave TPOD at base. Carry DECM instead, or leave pylon empty for lighter gross weight. If you are carrying dumb bombs and rockets, use NVG and DMT to find and designate. Set Release mode to CIP, amount and fuzing as desired, and hand deliver the weapon onto target. Regarding DECM. I don't know if it works or not. While ingress, DECM is in passive. Approaching threat area, or target area, place DECM into RPT (REPEATER), countermeasure release option on AUTO. You can still manually release CHAFF/FLARE or those awosome flare salvos. In DCS, and I blame ED. BUK and S300 SAM missiles are evil. They are ungodly demons of death from above. Becouse they have their own semi-active terminal guidance radars in the missile, using terrain mask to to obscure you from site radar, is not going to work, if the missile is in terminal dive on to you. In early launch phase when the missile is climbing and communicating with site radar, terrain mask may work. But once the missile is diving onto you, you are now fighting the missile not the site radar that launched it. To be fair. Patriot missile, AIM-120, Standard missile from AEGIS equipped ships, R-77 also have their own terminal guidance radars, which are nearly impossible to defeat in DCS. Falcon41 Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Thanks for the info DmitriKozlowsky, I was having issues with the DMT and TPOD competing for SOI and never occurred to me to turn the DMT off!
