which end to land?

ok, say your radio is out, or not and I'm flying over an airfield, if its empty maybe not a problem, but how do I know what is the landing takeoff end just by visual?

Probably best to attempt to land into the wind or as best you can given prevailing wind and orientation of the runway, always damn handy it there is a wind sock as well. :D

yea, I tend to land that way, just wondered if there was some sort of visual idea as the "right end, maybe the windsock end......unless in the middle :)

Well not all runways have wind socks, but for say a rural airstrip sure just do a fly over and check it out visually first.

No, he means look.at the windsock and which way it is blowing. It doesn't matter where it is. You takeoff and land into the wind, so you approach from whichever runway is closest to the direction the sock is pointing.
